Modern 400 sports bikes?

Are there any Modern 400 sports bikes? Like a model made within the last 3 years or somthing?

I havnt seen one, Its like this market is dead.. Why is that?

The market that spawned the 400 craze (Japanese on limited licences) has changed (I think they are no longer limited to 400's) and race replicas have been passe in the Japanese home market since the early 90's, so most development was on trick naked / tektro bikes to suit the fashion. The RVF was the last new 400 race rep (94 / 95 I think).

wasn't it the CBR400 ? , they were making them till 97/98?

or the ZXR400 ? , officially imported up to 00?

all the recent 400s I've seen are just rebored 600cc sports bikes like SVs , fazers , etc , not specifically designed for that class but restricted bigger classes , probably cheaper for the manufacturers

itchy has it spot on. they are still making 400s in japan but nothing like what they use to make and the zxr was the last machine in production.

I meant that the RVF was the last NEW design. The CBR and ZXR stayed the same from about 92 till end of production. Evolution of 400's was propelled purely by Japanese fashion, why bother upgrading your race rep every year or two when you sell twice as many retro / naked bikes in your home market. Upto about 91 the race reps did get tweaked every year or so, then the bubble burst and tastes changed.

The thing is, I want to get a 400cc for my next bike, as I think from a 125cc to a 600cc is just to much of a big step for me.

But to be honest, I really dont like the looks of these old 400's, with there fat arse ends and there ugly fronts and there so ons...

Can you change the bodywork easily on them? Make them have nice pointy arses and evil look fronts? ect?

Don't confuse manfactured date with registered date - I think Honda stopped production of the RVF and CBR around 1996. Sportsbike wise, the last production bike was the ZXR, but as already mentioned, that was quite a while after its last evolution.

I think they still make unfaired 400s, such as the Superfour V-tech, Fazer, Bandit and SVs, but you may as well opt for a 600 variant.

Jump straight to a 600, as mistergixer said, a fast bike will ONLY go fast if you want it to.
