The idea of him paying for the repairs is that you don't take it further, him paying would be easiest as you'll have the money quickest and with least hassle.

If he doesn't want to pay then you speak to your insurance says that you want to claim from his insurance, you'll get your money, he'll then have a claim against him which he'll have to declare and he'll lose his NCB. So assuming it's not a massive repair bill, him just paying you would be in his best interests.

Did you get all his details?

Reg No, Address, telephone number, insurance details etc?

If he refuses to pay, give your insurance company a call and let them deal with it. It's what they're there for.

You should let your insurance know anyway, tell them your just reporting it and dont want them to do anything about it yet.

You did take a ton of photos , didn't you? , no matter what they say get photos this is why £2.99
disposible cameras are so incredibly useful they stand up better than digital photos too.

People change their minds and try to screw you , a disposible£2.99 camera may be the best investment
you'll ever make.

I bet hes going to say you went into the back of him .

if you were guilty ie following too close

A photo would show skid marks under his car from him braking hard and you going intothe back of him
absence of such on a non ABS car = him guilty,

Also higher up damage , it the front wheel hits , and the frame angles into the car body work

If you are not guilty of following too close

no skid marks from you or car

no upper back of car body damage.

you not being thrown forward.

Ride safe! , ride to the side of cars slightly , gives you escape room , that said Transit vans scare
the crap out of me somethings , reverse is so close to 1st gear that quite often the reverse lights will
come on for a moment + they can't see you directly behind.

Neutral Great. A taxi driver is on a low income, he reversed into you breaking a cheap part, and you took advantage of his decency to pay it out of his own pocket by billing him for more than you should have? If more was damaged and you're happy with it being like that fair enough, but otherwise it's a pretty dishonest thing to do.

Conversely though Perry - I hope you didn't try and get it fixed on the cheap. If some damage has been done and you've opted to have it patched instead of replaced, you could end up out of pocket when it comes to selling. If it really was only £40's worth of damage, I guess everyone's happy because it could have been a lot more.

So basically charge these honest people exactly what it costs you, nothing more and nothing less. Rolling Eyes

He cracked the front mudguard above my wheel and scuffed it, he offered to replace whole unit which came to £36.67 from the local bike shop near me.

He seemed a genuine really decent bloke and was genuinely sorry for his mistake.

Accidents happen.

Depends what you class as 'low' a friend of mines dad can bring home between 30-40k a year, plus all the tax dodging they do. Another example is my sisters mate, she is part of a 8 child family, the dad drives taxis and the mum doesn't work. There house is nice enough and they live pretty comfortably.

But i still agree with your principle, there was no need for pulling his pants down like that unless there wa a valid reason for it.

Yeah, again, this is Blackpool.. my dad drives a Taxi here... Just because they delcare they earn around ten grand a year doesn't change the fact the figure is closer to fifty.

Nice sentiment though.

If you read my thread maybe you'd see he certainly did deserve it. He tried to flee the scene but was stopped by a passer by. He was arrogant, glanced at my bike and decided (Being a bike expert and all), that there was absolutely no damage, jumped in his taxi and started to drive off. Only when I took out my phone to jot his registration did he decided to slam on, reverse and tell me where was no point in doing so as it was my fault for parking so close Rolling Eyes
