Honda Varadero 125 / Cagiva Mito 125

Out of the 2 bikes mentioned... I hear that the Varadero is the 'more reliable' but to me the mito has 'the looks'

Any info about what bike would be best, i am only going around town etc, not EXTRA long journeys... but i want something that will be able to keep up with flow of traffic etc...

I have been told the Varadero will do 80-85 at a push, and to me that is PLENTY fast enough for what i want to do, but the Mito can do 100-110 or so i am told... Not sure if thats the reason i should buy a bike - because of the speed...

Anyway out of the 2 bikes, would you post what one you would have if you were 17, and why?

its like comparing apples with bananas mate.

the varadero is a four stroke commuter and the mito is a two stroke race type.

for round town stuff id go with the varadero. itll cost you less in up keep.

Lets make it simple

Honda Varadero
4 stroke commuter
Quite tall and doesn't look like a 125
Reliable and cheap to run (insurance and running costs)
Will top out at about 80mph

Cagiva Mito
2 stoke race replica
Sexy Ducati looks
Quite unreliable, expensive to insure and run.
Tops out at about 105/110mph. Apparently with an Arrow can they hit 120 but I doubt it.

The Cagiva will be more expensive to maintain because it's a two-stroke. Aswell as buying petrol you have to fill up your two stroke oil. If you use a decent oil (which you should) it can be quite expensive. If you look after the Cagiva it will last, just like any other two stroke. But if you thrash the f*ck out of it don't be surprised if it seizes. Then theres insurance, the Mito is a highly desirable bike that just loves to get nicked so expect a high premium.

The Honda will be quite cheap to run as you only need the petrol, insurance will be cheaper as it's less desirable and the four stroke engine will last for ever.

Mito vs Honda - Tough choice. I would also say Mito nut just take care of it.

Varadero for me (I had one), its how you want to be perceived by fellow road users. If you want a 2 stroke 'racey' thing with that orrible tinny exhaust then expect to treated with contempt by other road users, if you want a bike with prescence then the Varadero will do that.
Plus the backup of Honda reliability you can't go wrong, and they don't depreciate that much.

As sexy as the Mito is... I still have to say the Varadero. The Mito would be better as a second "fun" bike for when you're a bit older :p .

Hi

Round town probably the Varadero. Realistically the Mito top speed is 100mph (give or take a gnats), although the speedo will show a lot more, but hardly any help round town and it will need to be thrashed to obtain decent performance.

What is the BHP limit on a 125 at CBT level? On the honda web site they have got the varadero at 15bhp. IS this within the limit or not?

The limit is 11kW, which is just under 15hp. Suspect Honda are just rounding it up if they specify 15hp.

Why not combine the best bits of both bikes, and buy a Yamaha TDR125 instead? You get a tallish, trail/supermoto type look of the Varado, with the zing and de-restricted performance of a mito, or at least a good compromise of these two very different bikes?

Just out of interest, why are you looking at these two particular machines in comparison? Unless you know very little about bikes, and or what styles/type of machine your looking for, i find it difficult to see why you'd place two such differing machines on your shortlist?

It almost seems to me that you have just heard of the names of these two bikes, and been told to get one or the other? Surely your specifically into one type of bike or another? Then making a decision is made more easy, as there are less bikes in each catagory and they have broadly very similar features/specifications anyway.

In one mind i wanted the Sportness of the Mito

On other i wanted practicality and reliability of Varadero


Thats why i put them on my shortlist...


And in respect to your post, i quite like the look of the TDR, it is one option i hadn't thought about, but after reading about it and having a look at it, seems rather appealing

Stu (cagiva geeza) has a mito engined supermoto - the cagiva supercity, that looks pretty nice and it goes around well. My mate's mito does a good job keeping up with my 250 on the dual carraigeways and more than makes up for it in the twisties. It's very light, very flickable and very fun. Who cares about 2 stroke running costs, it's all part of the buzz... you'll regret not having one when the EU completely arse ends 2 strokes

what about the aprilia tuono 125?

It's an RS125 with high bars and no fairing. Ease of use around town, but still has quite a bit of poke(for a 125) from the motor.
