damaged r1! price?

hey, i crashed my 99' r1. Now looking to sell it as it is.

i dont have a clue what its worth. i've only got fire and theft insurance.

i'll get pictures as soon as. bent rear tail with fairings gone. main frame seems fine. side fairings are fine. smashed tank. front wheel doesnt face the same way as where you point handle bars. still starts and rides. was worth £3000, even had it up for sale. its got 15000 miles.

anyone with a rough idea of what i could get?

I'd say a grand tops. Genuine Yamaha tank is gonna cost the wrong side of £500.

i was thinking maybe a grand, but then people seem very wary of crashed bike, as if they can never be repaired or safe.

i was going pretty fast along an 'a' road when a roundabout appeared. braked hard back wheel came up. carried on until the front hit the kurb of rondabout. i went flying out ahead, bike did that bouncing from top to rear on the ground. i rolled for ages, remember praying the bike didnt carry on into me. i jumped up thinking 'sweet, i'm fine' then realised my shoulder wasnt... broken collarbone. 19 years old and an r1 dont really mix.

also got a zxr400 i low sided round a corner. cracked an scratched panels, spent £400 on repairing the engine casing (in a shop). fitted a radiator that was dented for £100. its a '97 import. 1400 miles. fuchs paint scheme, green. runs, rides perfect, year mot. how much would you lot reckon?

i cant tell. to me it looks ok. the main problem seems to be the tail piece, the metal there is bent. but the main frame which surrounds the engine seems fine. even the front handle bars and front wheel are misalligned slightly. nothing major.

when u first look at it, you think "wreck". but if u look closer its not that bad. it still rides, looks like it can be ok again. maybe the fact its still got mud and grass on it makes it seem worse. when my girlfriend looked at it she had to hug me. looks worse than it is.

Problem with that is that the subframe on an R1 is actually joined to the frame rather than bolted on (if i remember correctly that is.

To get that totally straight is going to be a pain in the arse, depending on the damage a new one might even need to be welded on.

I defo wouldn't let it go for for less than £1000. An engine alone would cost quite a bit, if you have the front forks in ok condition as well you would probably get about a grand if not more.

Get the pictures up when you can.

yeah your right Andrew, the subframe is welded on. bit if a bitch.
it was a nice bike, red steering damper, gold wheels, rear sets.. all in good tact so yeah, hopefully still get a resonable price.

giving up biking by the way. dads (money supplier) choice so dont moan at me. getting a car.

I would also suggest not rushing to get rid of anything just for the sake of it. You should still get a nice amount out of that bike, for example you've got the wiring loom, down pipes, lock set etc... All this will get good money.

Spend a few days looking around ebay and working how much it's all worth. Try ringing around a few bike breakers, pretending you want bits, just too see how much they want.

Sorry to hear about your accident, nothing worse than binning a bike.

As suggested stick it on ebay. Someone will probably snap it up for a trackbike. Just take about 8 close up pics and clearly state what you know to be wrong and then say there may be other damage but you are not sure. If someone wants to inspect it before the sale they can but it is sold as seen.

There are always plenty of idiots on there that will pay way over the odds. Anyone from a forum is a bit more clued up and will give you peanuts.
