May be able to persuade the missus to buy me a compressor for air tools / blasting / cleaning / painting, but are they any good for home use?

Screwfix
Tool Station

£100-150 tops so not the real heavy duty ones, but portable enough to sling in the car and use. The tools and accesories seem real good value compared to the electric / hand held versions.

Value for money or waste of money?

For occasional use, the hobby ones are fine. For example, you can happily spray a panel on a car, but you wouldn't want to do the whole thing.

Also, it won't run some of the bigger air tools, like the larger impact wrenches.

Hi

I have one with a 5L tank and supposedly capable of 7CFM. That is pretty much the min.

All the best

I have the OL231:
https://www.diy-compressors.com/shop/direct-drive-compressors.htm

It was a bit cheaper; when I got it and I actually ordered the smaller model, but they messed up delivery and gave me the bigger at no extra cost.

Runs a 480NM impact wrench fine.

You need to have a good think as to what tools your actually going to be using. Then once you've decided have a look at their requirements with regards operating pressures, consumption.

I very much suspect that 'buy cheap buy twice' could be a concern. Spending an hour googling info or going to see a specialist may be time well spent. The last thing you want is to spend £100 and end up with a compressor that isn't suitable for the jobs you had in mind.
