3~6 points and £60 fine.

Maybe more if they decide that you were being dangerous.

They need to have photo / video evidence. Otherwise, if you recieve a letter, choose the go to court option and ask for evidence.... They need evidence, they cant stand in court and say, erm he was doing about 80 or 85 or something.......

If they do have evidence, expect either 3 points and a £60 fine, or if you're unlucky, 6 points and a £90-200 fine.

But they can say that they were doing 70 and he overtook them, therefore he was speding. Or they might just hit him with dangerous.

I'm not quite qure of what happened... let me try and understand it Smile So your traveling along a dual carriage way on your bike, with a mates car in front and in front of that is a police car. You overtake your mates car at 80-85mph and then pull back into the nearside lane behind the police car.

You then parked up somewhere, someone told you that it was a cop car in front of you with "police" and massive yellow stripes and stuff all over it and blue lights on top.

How did they take your numberplate? Did a police man speak to you?

Nothing to worry about mate. If they didn't stop you at the time it is doubtfull that you will get 'done' Wink

CID don't really take to do with speeding violations.

Yup! There is no way in 100 years your mates could drive past and see what somebody is writing on a piece of paper in another car! Especially at 70mph!!. They are just pulling your leg. And as True Blue said, CID have nothing to do with driving offences really.
The only way you could have got caught in that situation is if they were unmarked traffic police, in which case there would usually be a speed monitoring camera on the dashboard, inside on roof near mirror or rear parcel shelf, and if you were speeding, 9.9 times out of 10 they would pull you over.

Besides 80-85 in a 70 zone (motorway, dual carriageway) usually most police officers would not even bother to pull you over. Different if you were doing 100, or driving dangerously - but an extra 10-15 mph they generally have better things to worry about, like not dropping their doughnuts or spilling coffee Laughing

Even if the Police do not have formal evidence of the speed you were going they can still prosecute you. However it's unlikely that you'll get an SP in the post, because of the lack of evidence you're more likely to get a court summons. At the court the statement given by a Policeman saying you were exceeding the speed limit will be read out and is good enough for the courts.

I know this because it happened to me, my barrister couldn't do a thing about it. It also happened to another guy when I was there, seem to do them at the same time!

A single police officer holds no sway in a court as it's discrimination, they really need 2 to corroborate.

If a police person was writing it down... then I presume there were two, if not I suspect his friends could make an official complaint about the police officer driving dangerously Smile

Hi

Almost correct. It is the corroborated opinion of a police officer. That can be corroborated by another police officer or by something such as a calibrated speedo.

All the best
