Little known rules of the road:

Did you know that cutting across the white blob at a mini-roundabout is an endorsable offence? 3 points and a £60 fine.

"164: Mini-roundabouts ... All vehicles MUST pass round the central markings except large vehicles which are physically incapable of doing so. ..."

There are a few mini roundabouts near me where people going straight over them is very dangerous and nearly got my knocked off once.

From one direction you can only see down the road about 10meters to the right (the direction your meant to give way to). The mini roundabout is offset so that to go arround it you have to slow down to about 10-15mph which is so that people who are meant to give way to you can see you.

Yet people go straight over the bloody thing at 30, so people like me set out cos it looks clear, only to have someone hurtling into the side of you at 30, shouting because you didn't give way to them.

Well here is the thing sonny, the entire 10m I can see was clear when I set off, if you had slowed down for the roundabout it would of been fine.

I think that if I actually got hit then the other driver would of got his 3 points for going over the miniroundabout with probably another 3 points thrown in for due care or dangerous driving or something. So keep that in mind.

I was stopped by the police for going straight over a mini roundabout. I explained to the bloke that riding around it properly had caused me to have my first (and so far only) crash, at about 3mph. The roundabout is on a slope, with incredibly slippery tarmac. Thankfully the cop station is literally just up the hill, so he was well aware how bad it was, he said he totally understood, and let me carry on merrily home.

My question is this though. We have a new roundabout near me that looks pretty similar to this:-

Except it has red tarmac instead of grey stone. Are you allowed to drive on the red/grey bit or not? I always do, but everyone else i see using the roundabout avoids it.

My friend was stopped by a cop car for driving over it, and when my friend pointed out that there is no mention of rules relating to it in the highway code, the cop said "hmph, it also says in the highway code that you are supposed to carry your documents, have you got them?", and gave him a producer.

So it seems even the cops dont really know what the rules are....

As far as I can see that grey area is part of the roundabout so,no, you have to go round it. I imagine its designed like that so artics can get round it without damaging it.

Yes and I go round them in case they're wet. Also, it's good practice for sharp corners.

... but I tend not to cut across them anyway because of the risk of the slippery painted surface

Last year, while riding out of Aberystwyth, i overtook a car that seemed to be going rather slowly, and being in an exuberant mood, gave it the berries.

Then i noticed the mini-roundabout that he'd been slowing down for, just before i jumped off the white painted hump. Overtaking while airborne probably didnt improve his impression of bikers much, but im pretty sure his surprised expression wasn't much different to mine!

I tend to go around them, purely because some have humps in the middle and you look like an idiot getting launched from them!
