Who attended a ceremony/parade today?

I did, for one. The cemetery and cenotaph is very near my home, so I had the luxury of a short journey.
My daughter watches it every year too. I think it is good to educate the upcoming generation. Tell them exactly what war is, and what happened/still is happening.

Our town holds quite a moving day. Do all towns do something similar?
They cut off the roads surrounding the monument, and we have an aeroplane fly overhead every year after the silence, and that drops thousands of poppies. They also let doves free as a symbol.
I cried again, as usual. The words of the whole thing just get to me.
"Tell them of us.. they we gave our today for their tomorrow"

I find it very emotional.

There was a march off at the end, which including all the usual old vets, cadets, and the Gurkhas (sp?) were even here this year!Quite remarkable for a small town I thought.
The old blokes made me tear up. Some were so old, that they could barely walk, but they still tried so hard to march in time. For some I guess it is the last year they will ever take part.

Afterwards, walking around the wreaths, there were so many poignant messages written on the crosses and cards from family members. One for for a young lad killed in the Somme. One for a 'beloved dad lost at sea in war'.

I didnt go to the Senotaph,but stood for 2 mins silence while i was working on my bike,but the street carried on as normal

Haven't been to one today, but we're due to go watch a big parade tomorrow.
My son and step-daughter are with St.Johns Ambulance and my step-son is with the RAF cadets, so the three of them are due to be involved.
I'll be there as a proud dad... and also because I have some past and present family members in the armed forces.

Last time I attended a Remembrance Day ceremony was at The Cenotaph in Westminster.
That paraffin lamp who stood outside the House of Commons and his trashy board was there on his Vigil against war.
I politely asked him to take a holiday and fuck off out of it for an hour or two.
That day is for vets and those fighting wars for whatever reasons, hopefully righteous.
If only for the sake the 'Old Boys' he should have shown a bit of respect.
A lot of them also protested against war when they volunteered were wounded or killed fighting the Bosch.

I like the way everyone goes on about remembering the veterans, shame very few actually remember them on any other day of the year or do anything to help them out in any way.

I didn't attend rememberance parade or anything today, have two tomorrow, just finished polishing shoes and brasses and am waiting on the Tumble dryer to finish to press uniform...

I think rememberance day is a great thing and worth while for everyone to appreciate the hard work and suffering and lives that so many put in for us to be here today

bazza, thanks for correcting the typo mate.

I can't mix the useless extermination of innocents whether in the right place or the wrong place at the time with my feelings on acts of parliament.

I do not blame the government for the murder of our British Citizens using our British transport.

I blame the minority of ruthless cowards and 'don't haves' who want to spoil it all for everyone.
No matter who is in power we face the threat.
It's historical.

1st line of defence is we all live inside a city wall.
Not realistic today.

Have a thought for the souls we lost and the feelings of their families.

Maybe we should have a day and two minutes for people killed by terror?

I think we should remember them every day, the lost, the fallen the surviors, the ones still fighting. of people not just WW1 and after, the south africa war, the crimian, the zulu war, and so on.
we have a 2 min silence and thats just right to say a lone prayer to them (if you choose to pray) or to rember those and think about why and what is worth fighting for,
I have to agree with bazza on the lessening of the minuits silence by stuff like george best farses, (imo he was someone who didnt deserve one because of the waste of someones death because he got a liver he didnt deserve,)
although marks of respect for terrorist attack victims are justly deserved. We cant decide how long we should have as a mark as if we worked it on the ammount of dead we would be silent for rather a long time.
I was unable to go to a march past or a memorial but for those who know me I think Im safe to say my children get reminded and other people get reminded by me about the importance of rememberance.

Yes, and every single Guide and Brownie (girls aged 7-15) attended in their uniform (looking very smart in my opinion) and marched to Church along with the Scouts and other local organisations, listened to the names of all those lost to Brewood and then marched back to the Scout Hut.

In my opinion, helping these youngsters realise why we remember once a year is the most important thing.

i gave a nod to the cenotaph as i went past to pick the mrs up to go to devils bridge, so no i didnt do anything, no disrespect to them, i just forgot.

it was actualy a beautiful sight, the park were it was held was full of people, i mean crammed, and its a HUGE park..
