Hi all,

Im currently using a Caberg V2 helmet and thw winds noise is really doing my head in. Which is a shame for such a comfortable helmet.

What is a better and quieter helmet I should be looking towards for the £200 region?

Also, has anyone tried the HJC HQ-1 (Lordship) helmet?
Noticed it in this months Bike magazine, but a cheap full carbon fibre helmet somewhat rings bells.

Thanks for any the help.

I hate to state the obvious, but do you use earplugs? If you love the helmet but the noise is a bit much, that's the cheapest way to get over it.

The last time I asked the same question I got a lot of stick for sometimes riding without them. Since them, I've never ridden without and my tinnitus hasn't returned, even combined with going to very loud gigs. Confused

The caberg V2 is a flip-front helmet. Flip-fronts are always noisier as they have more 'panel lines' than a conventional helmet and more importantly a direct channel for any wind noise between the two pads of foam where they meet, one on the helmet body the other on the flip front.

So if you want a quieter helmet a full face design is the way to go. However be aware that wind noise will always be present at levels that can do damage in any helmet on the market today. So as above ear plugs are the best way to go.

Laughing I stand corrected. Just I was under the impression that all Caberg helmets were touring/scooter type flip front helmets.

Get a shoei and fit the £20 whisper strip , + ear plugs

the £10 motrax one works but doesn't stay on and alost always comes off,

Remember to put ear plugs in properly though , ie roll them up , pinch your ear back with
fore finger and thumb using your middle finger to push it in, you should hear the foam re-expand
and fit your ear snug.

if they are disturbed by putting your lid on they aren't in properly ,

I put mine in like this and I can hear my alerady present tinnitus as I put them in properly
before it muffled the sound a bit ,

the best ones are the Max Orange ones you can get from any J&S , having gone through Max lite
green (crap) these iffy day glo ones , these horrible blue ones. the orange ones are the best (you
can find them in the motrax catelogue) , don't reuse them more than a week though as the wax
will build up on them making them slip out , and look horrible.

Nope sorry thats wrong! the best ones for you are Max orange ones, everybodys ears are different. Best thing to do is buy a selection of plugs and try them all, you will find one that suits your earshape.

Or you could go for something like Green Leopard custom fit plugs. Pricey but worth the money if you get on with them. Some people just cant though and they are not things you can try before you buy.

I have a Arai RX7RR and it is by far the noisiest helmet I have had, but with plugs in you don't notice.

I use an olf HJC and it's very quiet compared to other helmets I've had before. They still sell my model (CS12) on eBay. I still need to wear earplug though, I don't know of any helmet that's quiet enough to avoid that.

In agreement about the plugs, I hated them at first because I couldn't hear the engine noise and stalled it a few times. Once I got used to them all I can hear is the engine noise (obviously allot quieter though!) Also good fun in the garage when the staff try and speak to you and I attempt my lip reading. I'm sure the fat bird asked me out once, but then again Wink

My AGV V-Flyer helmet is apparently known for being quite noisy.
So I originally bought a pick'n'mix pack of earplugs when I first stared riding, but soon found that they didn't really feel as comfortable for me as I was expecting...
Thru trial and error, I eventually started using "Motosafe" earplugs (although mine are branded with the MotoGP logo), and now I never go for a ride without them Thumbs Up
