I had an altercation with some diesel.....

.....and lost, with gravity kicking me in the ball's and taking me down.

20mph low side about a mile away from my work on a roundabout, not a large patch of diesel but some small slopdges.

On the bad side I have bent brake levers front and rear and a bent clip-on, I'm also missing a mirror and have an indicator selotaped/cable-tied on. I also managed to slightly squash my sandwiches. On the plus side there is now less purple plastic on my bike.

So if this was your bike, your only motorised transport, but also a hack/commuter what would you now do with it?

If it were me I'd rat it. No disrespect but it's hardly your GSXR1K6NinjaBlade (not that that's a bad thing), doesn't seem much point in making it tidy again. Could well look better than it did in the first place.

In my opinion i would still ride it as it's your only form of transport.

I've had a similar accident and ended up with no front brake lever, so i still rode it to work as i had no other way of getting there. Obviously i took it easy but looking back, I'd have never stopped if anything had of pulled out in front of me.

I'd at least try and get it nearly back to its former glory, or just turn it into a naked bike. If you haven't got the luxury of money I'd at least fix it up as best as i could.

Glad to hear nothing attached to you was bent/snapped/scrapedoff thats the main thing..

I'd make some effort to cover the radiator if its not and that coil too maybe, i'd cover/disguise the resivoir so its not tampered with, even just wire mesh of some sort.

Ride it as it is for the time being, and keep looking on flea bay for bargain replacement plastics. Straighten the metal stuff back into position. Get the indicator replaced. If you have punched holes in any metal casing, buy some steel epoxy from maplin and patch it. If any electrics are exposed to the elements, get a roll of broad sticky tape and smother all connections etc in several dozen layers. Dont spend too much money on the bike; just keep it mechanically sound.

As for the bike, another tough brake but if it's still safe to ride I wouldn't worry about it (to much - looking at the damage still makes me wince). I'm in a similar boat with my Ninja (mine fell off its sidestand). I'm riding it as it is and keeping an eye on ebay for the parts.

I had a low speed slide over diesel on my GPZ just a few weeks ago (and frustratingly only a week after she flew thru an MOT).

Thankfully the repairs were fairly minor and easily rectified(snapped front brake lever, cracked indicator housing/lens/bulb, bent rear brake lever).
The repairs are all sorted, and I'm still using it as my commuter and daily transport

You'll be wanting some way of mounting that right hand indicator. Only a replacement top fairing will do that for you. Either that or get one to clamp to the fork leg (which will cause the leg to pit). Personally I like having a right hand mirror too.

get a single headlight or double new indicators and headlight bracket, and turn it into a mild street fighter,
no dramas.
its basically a street fighter now, you may as well finish the job
oh yeah get some engine guards saved my bike when i slid down the road when i hit a patch of diesel.

That'd work fine for an indicator. The front fairing indicator mountings seem to be very fragile, both sides on my old model gpz are fibre glassed inside (before I got it) and even then the indicators are really wobbly.

The bottom fairing has been a victim to the poor ground clearance of the geeper too, going over a kerb. In my defence, the belly pan had already been broken at least twice before, and the fibre glass was never as strong as the belly pan when it was new.

Getting the right hand mirror to stay vibe free is a chore at the best of times. With half the fairing missing and no mounting points, you're screwed on that score, unless you get a universal bar mounted jobby.

Unlucky Reuben. Glad you and cakebars were OK.

That said, like a few of us it seems, I did the same on a roundabout on my GPZ on 4th October, and it wore a hole in the waterpump cover, and snapped the RH handlebar off ! As well as the mirror indicator levers fairing stuff. It was written off. But that did mean a new bike when they paid out though .

I had an interesting ride home this evening.

Doing right handers the bike seemed as though it wanted to drop into corner's quite quickly compared to left hander's. The crash was a fairly low speed low side, quite gentle and me and my Dad were unable to find any damage concerning the fork's, frame, wheel etc.

The right hand clip on is however bent downwards slightly and although I'm attacking left hand corner's fine could it be a case of me being overly sensitive/cautious, or could it be that clip on?

I rode home last night and to work today moving at a slightly greater pace than this evening, still taking it easy, and didnt notice this then.

Any thought's?

Ride it to about 20 mph and take your hands off the bars, if it goes one way or the other madly or you get a bad wobble on somethings bent,

search flea bay and buy a new panel if you feel like it, doesnt matter about paint if your going to rat it

if not just find somewhere to stick your indicators and keep everything from flapping about and you will be fine
