I know there was something about this a while ago but i cant find it.
I'm 18, (19 on sat!) And I’ve got a 33hp licence. If i turn up to a dealership will let my test ride a bike? I ride a Honda @125 scooter thingy at the moment and that’s what I’ll ride up on. What are the chances of being let out on a hornet, fazer, bandit, or SV650?
Thanks
J

chances are very slim to none. They wont let you ride on the road illegally because if you bin it their insurance wont pay out!

Don't see any problem with it, as long as they don't notice you are 33bhp. Wink Some of the more shady dealers might not even care about that anyways Very Happy

Most will ask for a deposit, some will not. Some will have someone follow you on a bike, some will not.

Best bet is to get out there and try to blag some rides, c'mon what's the worst they can do? Say no, to which you promptly wave some cash in their face and say "your loss not mine." Very Happy

well i was lucky, i went to my local Honda dealer, and they had a restricted Hornet already, so took a test ride on one before i bought mine. i very much doubt many dealers will let you have a test ride tho, as i also found that they wouldnt let me have a test ride of bikes when i first started shopping.

I am 17 tho, might be different if you are over 18.

I test rode the blade on 33bhp. Just go and hope they don't notice or care Very Happy
Although personally I wouldn't trust you in the slightest as you've not ridden anything with gears bigger than a 125 Razz but try it anyways Very Happy

It depends how reasonable they are....
One place was gonna let me test ride a NS125, even though they had misunderstood me and thought I had no licence at all!.. They just wanted someone to follow me for a bit first.
(The prob was actually that it was derestricted and I was on CBT, but tehy didn't care)

I did it. I managed to get a test ride on a gs500. Guy just asked me if i had my licence with me said yes, got it out he didn’t even look at it!
But the bike broke down. I admit I stalled it in traffic, press the button nothing. Manage to get it in to a garage 150m up the hill. By which time I’m soaked with sweat. And it takes two of them about 5 goes to get it to jump start. I'm a small guy, I’m 6'2 but I only weigh 9stone. So I’m a tiny guy relay so pushing a bike up hill nearly killed me! Not v. happy.

I guess that might have put you off buying it then? Rolling Eyes

I did my test on a gs, and am probably going to end up with one as my next bike.
