Hi all,

Right I need to pick you peoples brains!

I brought a brand new car in May of this year and last week I noticed a crack in the windscreen moving out from the the bottom right corner! Now I thought that a stone chip had done it and phoned my insurance company to organise getting it replaced on my insurance!

Well the windscreen guy came out today and had one look at it and said it wasnt a stone chip but it looks as if the glass wasnt set straight to start with! He said stress has caused it to crack over time!

Ok so I went to my local Vauxhall dealership today to see if they would cover it under warranty to which they said no! The mechanic said it wasnt a stone chip but doesnt know what has caused it! He said it could be throwing hot water over a cold windscreen to someone pushing the car along near where the crack appeared (to which I havnt done either!

Ok so where do I stand? He said he will contact Vauxhall head office but said not to hold out much hope! I thought I read somewhere that the onus falls upon the company to prove it was my fault if refusing to carry the job out under warrant!

Well thanks for taking time to read this post and as always, any comments are welcome!

Ask your window man for a report to the effect of it wasn't correctly installed.

An expert witness testimony will be worth its weight in gold in this sort of case Smile

Yeah good idea Phil_G!

Only trouble is they said if the window wasnt installed correctly to start with it would of gone within the first few days! It's 6 months old now and has done 6000 miles!

Does this make any difference?

Any more advice peeps?

You may struggle as it has done so many miles and is six months old. Speak to the head office...Go to the highest person you can and explain what has happened and ask if they will repair it as a good will gesture. If you don't ask you will never know.

Yeah worth a Finglonga!

Anyone clued up on customer rights? Only ask because I am sure that if Vauxhall refuse to admit blame, they have to state the reason why and prove it was the customers fault, or wear and tear!

Any advice welcome,

Cheers
