PostPosted: 11:36 - 14 Nov 2006    Post subject: Killa thwarts GAME's new returns policy Reply with quote

So, I popped into GAME last night to pick up all the latest titles including NFS Carbon, Call of Duty….
Took my stack to the counter, handed the gimp the card, all was going well.
As he was doing so, he let me know about their new returns policy handing me a leaflet.

Shitfuck

**Buy in confidence!**
*28 days returns policy on all games*
*Games will be refunded if manufacturers/GAME seal is not broken, and game hasn’t been played*

I’d given him the card as well, so I typed in my pin and left £90 lighter.

I like a challenge…

First challenge was to copy the used game, GAME have had seals purposely made for buggers like me.

https://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y278/Killa127/gAME.jpg

The ‘V’ shaped lines are perforation of the seal, if you try to peal and re-seal the game, it’s fucked.

I cracked open both ends of the box and took a butter knife, pressing down on the CD so it lifts from the insert, all you do is use the knife to pop it off the centre. To get it back in, simple slide the CD in the open end, line up the game with the centre and press the case to pop it back on.

Job done

Now onto the manufacturers seal.
Carefully opening the one end of the game, I chose the bottom as it has a longer flap on one side and the glue looked crap.
Slide the game out using the top first to begin, then like a tube of toothpaste work the game out.
I attempted to use the same technique as the used game, but the official Xbox seals are very delicate and perforated down the middle.
I fucked it, and the seal was broken.
Using my Sony phone LED light, a scalpel and some patience I got the perforations to line up.
The seal was back on but I knew the vacuum packing was going to be tricky as it was machine made.

I used two small pieces of selotape on the sides to stop it from ripping, also to keep the sides as square as possible.
A bit of twisting and the game is in there, making sure no air was behind it, the game slid down ok.
I took off the selotape and folded the flaps down to the original positions.
A slither of prittstick along the lines got it to stick, then I just stood the game upside down for 30 mins.

All I need to do now in the future is wait until someone brings a new game back pre-owned.

Thanks for my £90 back and fuck your policy.

Killa your a straight up G, anyone who can rip of the tosser companies that charge 30-40 quid for a game needs to be given a medal.

Good plan + Good implementation, i wouldnt personally bother as the sticker on the game could fuck up the show, but we need to determine the quality of the sticker on these new games, whereby are they the same qualityon all games or is it just ps2 games where it comes off easily,

dude also is your ps2 chipped?

pikey? what u on about m8, some games i would pay the real price for I.E prov evo as that game gets raped 24/7 in my house, but say u wanna play a game which could be completed in 1-2 days, does it warrent paying stupid prices,

not in my logical world, of course some people like urself will completely object and will save up ur pennies and pay the full price, this is simply about choice of not wasting money. its just a bit of silicon , and its much easier for someone to slag off someones attempts and then actually do something urself

very true m8, but can u get the really new games downloadable staright away, prob not, but then again im sure it dont take long for them to appear on torrents Wink

You mean, if I actually had an internet connection at home, broadband and some software……yeah I do.

Tobes, you work for a game’s firm don’t you?

I see your point, hmmm, should I go back and give them the money?

My Xbox is chipped…. Lol

I’m no G, I’m just fed up with them charging the earth for old games, taking games off you for £1 and selling them for £10 and giving you next to no reward for buying games off them for years.

An easier option would have been to take the game back, say it is faulty with no scratches, accept a new game in return of the old one and then I have a game that is not opened and never played, with receipt.
The policy only requires these two things.

I had a copy of Ford Racing a while ago, the sound didn’t work.

It was my Xbox as it is an old one, they could offer me another copy, or a refund.

They're on a nice little earner, that's what.

As i walked out of the shop with a big grin on my face and money in my pocket, i did think of the consequences of my actions.
I mean if i carried on doing, and the other thousands of gamers out there, how would this affect the gaming industry?

Would Microsoft go bust? Laughing

Then i saw some school girls and forgot about it all.... Cool Thumbs Up

No one is forcing you to play the game. If you think it's wasting money then don't buy the game. You're paying for alot more than just a piece of silicon, go to B&Q or somethin if that's all you want. You don't go stealing everything you can't afford do you?

As long as Game will let you exchange what you buy for another copy of the same game then I don't think it's that bad. PC games would be a different story though.

I don't think games will go down in price if everyone suddenly stopped stealing them, and the companies could maybe do a bit more to stop piracy, but that doesn't mean what you're doing is right.

As for the original post...
When do they tag the games? You must be able to aqcuire a box of security tags from somewhere, then just stick a nice new one on after you're done with the game.

Rick.

How can you compare stealing virtual goods with physical goods?

I'm just downloading a game which someone has paid for & kindly uploaded for the world.

[EDIT]
After playing the game, i find that it's more of an expansion to NFSMW then a stand alone game, noway should they allow anyone to pay full price for this. There's no story you just take over territory then defeat the boss at the end. I really don't believe that they spent much time on this.

After 3 hours of play i completed about 40% Rolling Eyes

Hi
The GAME policy was 10 day no fuss return, so basically you bought a game, completed it, took it back and got all your money back, there were 2 game stores in the same shopping center, so when I got a return I'd go to the other shop and buy a new one, thus the circle would start, I got thought like 20 games that way Thumbs Up

as MISC already beat me to it, how can taking information be classed as real stealing. all that is being done is DATA is taken, you need to really understand this point.

Also a correction to myself the silicon actually comes from the user when they copy the game. The problem is most game outlets as KILLA suggested do not let you change the game once it is openened.

On that note, taking a game playing it for 10 days and completely smashing it and getting 100% completetion and then taking the game back is the same thing.

No one is forcing you to play the game. If you think it's wasting money then don't buy the game.

well most games are pretty and shit and i will do what KILLA does and rip the stupid twats off, and then copy the game play it, after playing the game probably find out the game aint all that and throw it in the bin. I do not wouldnt care as i would have got my money back. everyone is entitled to their opionions but im not to yours.

so go and pay 50 quid for a game and cos no one is stopping you from BUYING IT. ( you probably work in a GAME store)

anyone who is ripping off the big corporations has my respect.

p.s. this was a informative post, cheers All

whats in a name?

no matter how you try to justify it theft is theft no matter if its data or not. if it doesnt belong to you and you take it then its theft.

and before anyone flames me i couldnt give a shit cos ill have a pirate game as quick as the next man....just dont try and make it sound as though its not theft. it is.

/stands up

Hello, my name is Doug, and I am a thief.

/sits down

Have been since my first tape recorder, and will be whilst the technology exists to make copies.

I think it's more "handling stolen goods" than "theft" when it comes to downloading. Someone else has already done the "theft" part of the process. But it's a copy, and the original is still with the owner, so it's not so much theft as depriving the author of potential royalties.

I do buy some games, mostly if I want to play online with a clean key. The games I download are games I wouldn't spend money on (maybe, if they get to the £5 bargain bin, but that's rare), so there are no "potential royalties" from me anyway - making absolutely zero difference to the pocket of the publishers of the game.

[edit] Can't spell "Thief" Smile

Ooh yeah bet you'll totally get arrested for owning that Rolling Eyes

It's not illegal, just, modified, only people you'll annoy by doing that is microsoft and they aren't the law, yet.

Oh and stealing games rules!

Very few games are actually worth paying for in my opinion, titles like GTA which actually have some lengetivity, or metal gear, that kicked ass, are well worth paying for but something which can be completed in a few hours...

Thank you, its nice to see some back up coming in this place, i was close to slapping some of these people. that chat pure ice cold breeze.

FREE IS GOOD, and Bill gates and companies like GAME can blow me,

1 point if you are one of these people that have never done a single bad thing in your whole life and you are 100% honest and legal, never tried to get anything for free always always paid your way, including paying for porn on a monthly basis and also paying 99pence for every track you dowload, THEN fair enough i respect that, otherwise you are like us u take things for free.

welcome to the club, the THIEF CLUB, either your with us or you are with THEM,
