 |
|
I checked out the "run what ya brung" (www.rwyb.com) website as I'm pretty close to Santa Pod and fancy hitting the strip with the ZZR to see what I can squeeze out of it. I may make a day of it by dragging some mates and their bikes along for a few runs as well .
The thing is, I've never spun up the back wheel whilst stationary to heat the tyre and generate smoke etc. and as it seems to be a compulsary thing for these kinds of events, can anyone scribble down a quick guide to doing it? I don't want to trash the rear tyre by being over enthusiastic or catapult off with not enough front brake control , nor do I want to bog down and stall the bike in front of everyone .
Any tips?
Ta,

Put both feet on the floor and "stand" over your bike, leaning forward to push down onto the handlebars. Hold the front brake tight.
Hold the clutch all the way in and raise the revs. Keep the revs high and slowly let the clutch out. The bike will start crying at you to release the brake, but don't listen. Bring the clutch out slowly, listen to the engine (It will be struggling a bit) and give it more revs if needed.
Once you've got the wheel spinning it's pretty easy, just don't overdo it! ____________________ Yamaha YB100 | Yamaha TZR125 | Yamaha XJ600S | Suzuki GSF600

The way I do it is:
Get it in first gear and pull the clutch in (obviously)
Stand up over the bike (don't sit on it). Putting some weight on the handlebars helps
Pull on the front brake lever reasonably hard
Whilst still holding the lever, give it a fair amount of revs. I normally give it about 7k (out of 13)
Then feed out the clutch pretty quickly. Don't dump it, but don't feather it either.
Wheel should spin up.
When you want to stop, back off the revs, and just before it's going to grip, pull the clutch in. You should be holding the front brake lever until the wheel has completely stopped spinning.
I'm sure other people have better ways to do it, but that's how I do it |

far as i knew thats more likely to burn out the clutch than the tyre
as said before, stand over the bike, leaning as far foward as you can, put her in 1st, rev her quite high, about 6-7k, hold the front brke as hard as you can, then dump the clutch, dont try and gently feed it out. if at any time it feels wrong, pull in the clutch. make sure no1 is infront or near your tyre.
once you do it once, youl never stop lol ____________________ My Bikes - - - Royal Enfield 500 with sidecar, VFR800, CBR600FX,
