A mate of mine is thinking of doing his bike test, so out of interest I've been looking into how he would go about it here in france. He's over 21, so he can do a kind of direct access test, but fuck me it looks involving! I'd heard from people that it was a bitch to get a license here, but this is unbelievable:

Also it says french bikes are all limited to 100bhp!

Doesn't see to put them off much judging from the number of french bikes about, and the bikes are very easily de-restricted so I'm told

Looking at that site, it seems similar to the new exams coming in 2008 over here.

Holy crap! I read the first paragraph or so and thought "that seems exactly the same as us..."

But their 'CBT' stuff is much harder. Including 20 compulsory hours of tuition! That's gonna be costly if anything.

Still, I rekon I could piss that no problem.

A question from my theory was:

What do you do as you approach a traffic light and it is showing red?

A: Accelerate.
B: Slow down and come to a stop.
C: Overtake the vehicle in front

It get's better, my practical was 3 minutes and 48 seconds long...i timed it

Japan is worse. They have you riding along planks and stuff if you want anything bigger than a 400.

It seems to say that there is no such thing as a learner rider in France then?

You do a written exam (like our theory), then you go for training, then you do an off-road practical then you do an on-road practical then you have a licence?

Shit, I couldn't have done that when I first started riding, although I guess it does make the rider safer when they're let losse on their own.

It doesn't seem much different to doing our cbt and main test in one go. The pillion thing is a good idea and i recon would phase a lot of experienced riders.

The main difference seem to be the amout of hours you need to do. People think it's expensive over here doing an average of 10 hours training before the test, i dred to think what it costs them poor sods.
