what's the pace like in club racing compared to track days? I'm not going racing or anything but we were talking down the pub and none of us knew. My thoughts were a the front of the interemdiate group would make up the latter part of the racers. But one of the lads reckoned a first group middle runner would make up the back end of the racers. anyone clear this up? Thanks, Nick.

Hi

Depends on the track day. One just before a race meet at that track, plenty of quick enough racers will be in the intermediate group.

Generally though mid fast group would be at the middle or slower of the race pack.

All the best

Keith

As Keith said. Often see a lot of the fast group trackdayers are actually racers.

Also depends on the race club and championship - for instance the BMCRC 600SS class is pretty fast.

I was in the top third of inters at Snetterton, doing similar lap times to a few recentish litre bikes on my 64hp SV - and on the following race weekend I only managed a 10th or so best place. However the fastest in fast group was last year's British Superstock Champion - and Snetterton is a power track.

At brands hatch I was mid fast group on my SV - the same times got me 10th-15th place in my class (which isn't that fast).

For an 'average' inters group level (not the day before a race weekend, but nor a trackday with lots of slower riders) I would expect people in the mid-high times would still be right at the back racing - getting lapped.

I would expect mid-fast group corner speed to be nearer the back than the middle.

At lydden (usually has slower riders) a few years ago I managed one session where the only person faster than me was an r1 and only just. I knocked 5 seconds off my lap times and managed a 10th place racing on a similar bike in Rookie 600s.

Fast group at Snetterton a while ago I was one of the slowest, doing times that got me about a 20th on my r6. Fastest person wasn't Frankie Chili - who was riding that day (though more as a bit of relaxation, from what I could tell as it was the week after an injury.)

It should be noted that my club (BMCRC) is known to be a faster one.

Depends entirely on the trackday like the above have said. I was there at the Snetterton trackday right before a race weekend, the pace was brisk to say the least!

It saw G in inters.

My times on my MZ around lydden in novice would put me at the very back (not last) of the MZ class in Bemsee. And that was on a standard bike.

I'd say if you're in inters you aren't even going to be cracking the midfield. Unless you're not on a bike suited for the track. I.E even the top MZ lads book into inters on trackdays due to choice of bike.

Would go with that, thought i was fast till i started racing Rolling Eyes

But its not just about lap times, racing aint like trackdays. You will get knocked of line you will get cut up and there is fairing bashing Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil

To be honest my race pace is always up on an easy going trackday, the adrenaline really gets flowing

Although towards the back at club racing at a track day I am up there with the fast track day heros Twisted Evil

trackdays are a good way to work out if you are fast enough rider to race.
i suppose if you can be one of the fastest in the fast group on a trackday you would certainly be able to hold your own on the track.
