As you know I bought myself an RXS100 for the winter, I spent about 4.5 hours cleaning the ninja, tucking her up and putting her away for a few months.

Well my oil light is permanently on the RXS, so I have to check levels in the window, something I should sort I know.
Well it’s too late, I’ve seized the bugger, and I feel so bad because she was running so sweet before.

The Kwaks come out, and she is now filthy again. Rolling Eyes

The really worrying thing is, I am stressing out about it, I hate the thought of the Kwak getting dirty, and I’ve spent along time on the bike to keep it looking new. It makes me not want to ride it, but I have to go to work……it’s really affecting my mood.

I have to get the RXS re-built, I’ve done this before but I’m not sure what route to take.
The rings haven’t blown to pieces, the bike still has some compression, I’m going to take the head off at the weekend to have a better look.
Sorry for the tedious questions but I just want to reassure myself on some things.
When I take the head off, if there are small pieces of ring missing, what do I do?
Am I right in saying I’ll need the gasket set?
The re-bore done by the local garage is a flat rate of £25.50, does that sound reasonable?
Should I allow them to get a piston kit for me, or get one myself?

Get the barrell measured up etc - you might get away with a hone and new piston / rings depending on how "seized" it got. Also replace the small end bearing as a matter of course and have a feel of the crank, a one of seizure is unlikely to of knackered it but worth checking. May as well let the person doing the reboring supply the piston but make sure it's Japanese - Mitaka or TKR if not genuine Yam.

Ok, I have been given a contact in Gloucester that can do that work a lot cheaper than the bike shop…..lol, because they send it to these chaps anyway.. Rolling Eyes

You mention the small end bearing, does this require them to have the whole engine?

The oil light was on on an RXS100, which unless I'm very much mistaken is a two stroke.

And you are checking the oil in the oil window, which would be the gearbox oil?

So what it sounds like you are saying (and, I might very well be way off the mark here) is that you seized your RXS100 by not putting any two stroke oil in there?

If thats the case then yes, you have been a plank. The expression daft as a brush springs to mind!

Sorry marjay, there's a little window for the two stroke.

The sensor, or float is buggered so it's always on.

The gearbox oil is fine.

Small end bearing is a little needle roller you pop in the conrod before putting the piston on (it's what the gudgeon pin runs in). Pay a fiver max for a quality one, I always change it when I do a stroker top end rebuild.

funnily enough, i'm trying to avoid changing my piston/rings, i know i should change them A.S.A.P, but can't be bothered ATM, which if i'm not carefull, will bite me in the a$$ i know, want to wait for a month til when my insurance runs out...
my problem is:
when i hit 7/8k RPM,
when in 1st-2nd-3rd i hear i tinny tinkery noise in first bit of exhaust where it comes out of engine,
BUT when i change up a gear, through the small revs, it is sweet as a nut.. what's wrong with it?

Moral. Never spend more than 15 minutes washing a bike if you live in Britain. It is pointless.
