Yeah pretty serious crash, but at least they were all okay, when it was shown on the TV it looks like the second guy must have hit his nuts at some point in the crash...not too nice! ____________________ ~Sahf East Winnah~

You'd be quite supprised actually.
I take it you dont do any racing yourself?
Its the one thing that cannot be explained to the point of understanding for someone who doesnt actually race or has done anything similar to it... But basically even though your speeds are a lot faster, and what your doing is a lot more dangerous, its the people around you and the track that saves you.
Think about it, if that happened on the road there is no run off, and there is almost guaranteed to be a car or vehicle coming the other way etc or some driver who just isnt clued up and slams on the brakes as their "reaction". This is next to useless as your never going to stop in time to avoid the rider sliding down the road directly infront of you.
However, on the track you can trust everyone around you (almost). Doing 100mph on a track with huge run-off areas and side by side with a rider with the extreme capabilities and skill levels that racers have, is on the same level as doing 15mph next to your best mate on push bikes.
You'll see that a racers perspective and reaction to an accident ahead of them is very rarely to just "brake". Infact a rider on the track is much much more open to the idea of "laying it down", which is basically making himself crash to avoid injuring you, than anyone on the road.
And also you probably havent taken into account the immense amount of money and time invested into the kit they are wearing. The kit they have on is designed to take this kind of impacts, its not your average "nipping to the shops" road kit, trust me.
SO without sounding too patronising, its just as safe, and less supprising that no-one was hurt, that popping to the shops on the push bike and loosing your footing going down a small slope on your push bike ____________________ CBT Aug '03 ... Gilera GSM 50 ... Honda NSR 125 Aug '04 ...

i did,
Its not the falling off at 200 mph, that kills ya, its the stopping from 100 to 0 MPH in less than a second does.
