Northdowns part II

Id thought I'd put this in here this time, so the people who want to get into off-roading can see what they're missing out .

Location: North DOwns Near Boxhill
Time: Yesterday
Objective: Have fun
Task Members: Luke Korn and Ste

Again another quality day of green laning. I cant get over the fact, that we can can have a whole day of fun, just for the cost of about £7 of petrol

This time ste joined us for his 1st go at greenalning.

He did pretty well, damn good infact seeing as he hasnt ridden properly for 2 years, and this was his 1st real go at off-roading .

He only fell off once, i was dissapointed .

Was a nice day, maybe a bit too hot, you dont realise how much effort it takes until you actually go off-roading, I found myself out of breath on a few bits

of the tougher sections.

Was all going pretty well, lots of muddy stuff and deep puddles.

Then I realised i had no back brake
Turned out the pad retaining pin had come lose and one of the pads had fallen out. Luckily was able to find it, unfortunatly for some reason we couldnt get

the in to screw back into the caliper.

Que ste's exstensive tool kit, a cable tie and a re-usable cable tie. Sorted
Its hard to see but there is a black cable tie going through the caliper holding the pads in, worked fine all day

We found a friend on our travels, met him at rykers and he decided to tag along, as its not really safe to go greenlaning by yourself, incase you snap your

leg off, as there weill be no one to take pictures
I also managed to squeeze in a bit of rehersals for the nativity I am acting in soon.

Someone even called the rozzers on us , asfter a while. All we were doing was riding up and down the end of a pretty much empty car park, couple of old cunts who were obviously jealous of the fact we were enjoying ourselves

He was cool though, and just denied all knowlege of this illeged "arseing about", as I has slighly removed the camera from view

id love to do green laning, im in surrey (mitcham) what are the rules and regs? and where can it be done legally?? use to do it years ago on the common but got to 'hot' (police wer always there) any info will be great james

Erm, rules and regs .

Basically, you have to be road legal (so taxed, tested and insured) and stick to byways or whatever (ie no footpaths or famers fields).

They are XR250s mooky.

so all i need to do is find a 'green lane' and open 'er up (within reason)? anyone have any maps of say box hill to green lane? im a complete noobie to green laning never done it before but would like to. are there any rules to what bike? obivously you wouldnt use a sports bike... i have a super moto type bike, or is it as mentioned above just needs to be taxed, insured and mot-ed?

This time of year a bike with some kind of off road biased tyre would be recommended. Also one that you don't mind throw down the path either.

Legally you can use anything, providing it's a road legal bike.

Afraid when I've done it I've just followed Korn / Luke, however OS maps should list byways.

Yes.

They're public rights of way, like normal roads just without tarmac.
