Can you insure a bike without a bike licence and have someone else as the named rider who does have a licence?

You can insure it, just like you can insure anything,, but if there's an accident while you're in control of the bike (riding it, pushing it), the insurance won't cover you. It'll simply cover you from third party stuff (it being stolen, someone hitting you etc.)
So, you can and you can't.

they'll ask so how long have you had your licence? , you say I ain't got one, CBT? , aint done one , at which they operator will think you are joking,

kinda a bit like ages ago working in a Mc'ds where a guy asked for a cheese burger without cheese , he was taking the piss ,

Ok, spoke to father..

Basicly, you can get different insurance polices. When you name a driver, they ask the same questions they ask about you. So motoring convictions, accidents etc. However, you are also able to get 'open' insurance, where any rider is insured to ride said bike, providing they have permission.
But this can get expensive.

Any further details on this? The situation for instance. Why would you wanna insure a bike, basicly for someone else? Can give more help with more info.

What are you trying to achieve? Do you have a bike that you are not licenced to ride yet but you still want to insure it against theft? If so just insure it in your name. You don't have to have the correct licence to insure it, just to ride it on a public road.

If you mean it exactly as you said it then simply get the other person to ring up and insure themselves.

That's where I got confused. Only thing I came up with was this;
You own a bike, but have 9points on your license and 2 accidents against your name.
You sign bike into my name, I'm a clean car driver, but don't ride. I insure the bike and put you as a named rider.

However, as soon as they ask a question about you, it's screwed. Only way is to insure it for everyone. But even then they ask who'll be the main rider. No matter how, it'll be expensive.

My dad wants to insure the bike for me to ride but he only has a car licence.

Why don't you just insure it? I doubt there'd be any difference, if anything, more expensive to have both your names on it.

Recently did similar with a mate. Except, rather than him saying he didn't own the 125 when getting insured, I just signed the V5 to him, and he now 'owns' the bike according to the DVLA. Any problems, I break his legs Smile

Simple really. Plus I know he'd not be that fucking stupid...

You being his son, will be less of a problem.
