Hay all!

I was directed to this site and have been reading up on many of the posts Very Happy

I am looking at doing my CBT probably early next year after xmas and when it is less likely to be icy! (as a new rider, not because I am scared of a little cold weather of course Wink) The bike I am looking at is the Honda CBR125 as I want a 4 stroke (read, I don't want big blue plumes of oil ridden smoke like the lads at work seem to all have Laughing) and want an engine that is happy with only a little TLC Smile

Really I want a Triumph Daytona 675 but insurance is too high and I would prob kill myself on a powerful bike, so I am happy to walk before I run Wink

Very smart! A couple of years on a smaller bike and then, if no claims, you'll be able to get a much lower insurance on a bigger bike. Thumbs Up

Na, the engine'd probably lunch it's self because you didn't check the oil often enough Wink.

Best advice I can offer if you're set on a CBR125 is to go for the cheapest second hand one in decent condition you can find.

Oh and do keep it half decently maintained regardless - some 4 strokes survive better with less maintenance than 2 strokes, but that doesn't mean they don't suffer in the long run.

budget around £1400 for a decent one with low miles. Good bikes, mines never ever put a foot wrong. And with a decent set of Rubbers on, not the original tyres they handle really really well.

Anyway heres my blue 2005 baby. Done 15,000 miles on her now and its not put a foot wrong Very Happy

Love the colour! Was thinking of getting the Orange one as it is the cloest colour to my car Laughing (how sad is that Very Happy)

But would you want a 675 in orange? Don't forget that your leathers need to match your bike, and as you'll possibly be wearing the same leathers on your next bike, so get it right the first time. Go for red, it's the fastest colour, or so I'm told... Or boring black.

Me too. Mine is the chance grey metalic with metal tridon cell. Love it, though now use bike commuting and only use car if carrying pasenger. (too short to have pillion Embarassed )

Nah I hate red and black (either common or boring Laughing (sorry all those who have red or black Wink)) If i ever get the 675 it would be in yellow. The CBR125 would be orange (it is that or Black, Red or the god awful Respol Laughing)

Sorry to hijack, but any idea how the gearbox compares bewteen the roadster and the standard Smart car? I test drove the standard one and the automatic mode was awful, taking what felt like 2-3 seconds to actually shift.

It is better then the "fortwo" box but essentually the same. It takes a little getting used too but on the whole it actually makes you look further down the road to make sure you get yourselve in the correct gear for what is comming up. Seeing as most people don't look more then 3 foot infront of them, that can only be a good thing Wink

Well mines an aftermarket one which you can get off ebay for £50/70 which had indicators on it. gets rid of the rear indicators which look a bit like wings.

Heres what mine looks like

Yeah best mods i have done are simple ones.

The Rear Light

Nice End can purely for Noise only Laughing

Pillion Seat cover, mainly because i wouldnt bother taking pillions on a 125.

And take the Pillion grab handle off, smartens the back end up.

You bought one or gonna be buying one soon then ?

Also, note that buying from a dealer's generally considered to be bad for value - can easily pay over £500 a private sale even on something like a CBR125, sometimes a lot more on bigger bikes.

If you're happy to do maintenance at the required times and be sensible with warming the bike up, then a 2 stroke should be just as reliable as a 4 stroke and offer more when riding, especially with the option to derestrict.

Though of course you would have those 'big plumes of smoke' - but then those big plumes of smoke will also be going past you as they can make getting on for double the power when derestricted Smile.

Now is a good time to buy one tho, aim to get them knocked down to at least £2000 with some Kit thrown in if your going to buy a Brand new one. But you can get some pretty good cheap cbr 125's and other bikes Like the NSR and RS for about them same price in Biketrader at the moment.

But its entirely you choice.
