hello everyone... now i know theres a lot of these kind of posts but im not looking for the usual kind of bike...
im looking for a second bike.nothing too expensive, pre 2000 in year.and cos im on a c.b.t. no more than 125cc.ive got a enduro look bike now,so im after something a little different.im not into the sports bikes and dont like the laid back harley looking types.?does this leave many options??im not a small bloke so preferebly something big and defo a 4 stroke.i dont want the 2 stroke noise...speeds not too inportant as long as itll do 55mph fairly comfortably.preferably the open sides type bike rather than the fairings.and defo not a cg...i cant stand bikes like that, sommit that looks fairly cool and maybe looks bigger cc than it actually is..?not asking for much, appreciate any suggestions...oh and a max of £1200.-although not too bothered about age. ____________________ DRZ-400sm |

well funny enough after xmas im gonna do my das.but not to ride bigger bikes 125cc is more than enough for me im just sick of the L plates...it seems to me that once u get past the 125cc mark the repair bills just keep going up,as well as the insurance, fuel costs e.c.t.for me thats not what road bikes are about, for me there about cheap transport. and im just not that interested in road bikes to go that far.dont get me wrong i love riding bikes, its just that i dont feel i need more than what a 125 can offer..does that make sense??id search google for a bike that i loke the looks of but i just havent got a clue what to do a search on...i only know about enduro bikes... ____________________ DRZ-400sm |

i like the look of the top one, maybe not that colour? but the only thing i dont like about it is the seating position...it looks like id be lying on the tank.but i do like the seating on the second one,but not too keen on the rest of the bike cos it sorta looks like a enduro type bike..is there anything in between the 2?
the more i look at that top one the more i like it...it looks way bigger than a 125cc.gonna have a look on ebay for some prices and maybe a black one would look a bit better...thanks. ____________________ DRZ-400sm |

CBR 125
Is quite expensive but can cruise nicely at 65/70
They are a four stroke which maked them more realible than a 2-stroke like the NSR or RS. They are honda so you prob. wont find one that is under £1200.
I bet because its a honda you will find parts and the overall realibility quite good (Honda's are bullet proof )
The cheapest CBR125's usually round £1200/£1300 have 10/15k miles and quite often have light damage from a fall.

10,000 miles, Red, MOT-11-2007. Delivery Arranged, HPI Clear, Viewing by Appointment, Part Ex Welcome Including Cars. One Owner, FSH, Both Keys, Smarwater Fitted. Supplied in Excellent Condition. Price: £1,299 | -- This ones sold fast as was a right deal!
EDIT: depending on your age, insurance could be bit pricy because its a sporty 125cc (but prob. wont be as much as an enduro style 125, as thieves just love them ) ____________________ Dave

CBR125 is a good bike in my opinion, done just over 10,000 miles on mine in the time ive had it. In that time its been crashed and stolen and it is still going strong. Do all your own servicing which isn't that hard to keep the costs down even further.
People say that they are expensive to fix but i have first hand experience and thats not entirely true (unless you need things like a front wheel lol. It will sit quite comfortably at 70 and will eventually reach a tad over 80 (indicated) and im 6ft2 and 12 stone so not too bad. I also do a lot of high revving motorway miles on the weekends and had no problems as of yet.
As you can see i highly rate the CBR and so do many other owners but obviously its up to you. |

thanks for the info...i must have been looking at the wrong bike before,as i was finding prices under 1k for them.ill find one somewhere.
insurance isnt a problem,my gy125 is a trials type bike and thats only £62 p/year.
and i do all my own repairs too so im not too bothered about that side of things..just to try and find one cheap.any idea what the bhp is on one?
and is it possible to de-restrict/tune the engine in any way? ____________________ DRZ-400sm |

There isn't really any way to tune them without some serious engine work. Power is 13 bhp which i think is the learner limit anyway?? You would be lucky to get one for under a grand without quite some damage. They seem to be going for around 12-1500 on ebay but if your willing to stretch your budget a little give George whites a ring as i picked up my repsol one for £1800 with 7 delivery miles on it so can't fault that.
My insurance is £216 TPFT with MCE and im 20 with 1 yr NCB and the bike is garaged. Was £226 last year with no NCB again with MCE.
In regards to derestricting four strokes aren't restricted. You may get a whole 1BHP with a sports can but that would still be optimistic, they just sound and look better (stock sounds good though) |

If your looking for a CBR 125, a lad i know who's name on here is Kiss my Rs. is selling his 2004 Reg in Blue for 1300.
Its in Immaculate condition, hasnt been dropped etc.
https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=100786
Not the greatest pictures of his bike at the Bottom, but it looks similar to mine which is also pictured in the thread.
The only difference between mine a 2005 and his which is a 2004 model is mine has a black belly pan and his has a Grey belly pan.
Excellent bikes tho and will happiley sit on the motorway at 70/75 mph all day long ____________________ JACK, MISS YOU LOADS YOU LEGEND. |

is there any way to get a 2 stroke to sound a bit more beefy?not as tinny,if you know what i mean?
i really like the cbr look, i just thought they would have a bit more power than that.i was hoping for somewhere closer to 30bhp.
i know thats not legal but im gonna do my das after xmas so it wont matter too much.
i think if im gonna go for a sports style bike ill regret it if its too slow. ____________________ DRZ-400sm |

the reason im put off by 13bhp is because my gy125 is recorded as having around 13bhp,and my bike is just sooo slow.maybe the cbr might be quicker than mine,as mine is probably only around 7bhp in reality.im gonna have to have a go of one before i decide.been thinking about it and i definately dont want a 2 stroke.like you say the noise is just, well stupid really.
ill see if i can get a test ride on one from somewhere and go from there... ____________________ DRZ-400sm |
