I am absolutely furious at the minute, and don't know where to turn...

Basically, I live with my OH, we have Sky +, in HIS name...always has been
The last time I had a Sky account was in 2002. I moved house, cancelled the Sky and paid the balance off. Account closed.

Monday of this week I received a red letter from a debt company asking me to pay £85 I owed to Sky!!! Shocked Evil or Very Mad
Erm.. I don't owe them anything
Straight on the phone to Sky... "You don't owe us anything. Your account is closed"
YES.. I know that! Tried to call the debt company, constantly engaged. Wrote to the company instead, and cc'd it to Sky for their ref.

Just got through to the d company this evening.. "It is an old account, from 2002, they probably can't find the details"..
"Erm yes they can, Sky told me my account balance was £0 from that account in that house. They have the full address, my details, and the old account ref number that YOU gave me" Evil or Very Mad
"Sky are wrong. They have made a mistake. You do owe us, you need to pay"
"TWO people have checked that account now, and it always says the same thing..you are making figures up for me to pay. I am not paying it. I don't OWE any money"
"Call Sky back and ask them to email us, we can't call them"
How rude are these companies!!??? Very Thumbs Down

I called Sky again, and they are going to email them, but they said it may not stop the company as apparently it has happened before. They threaten bailiffs/court they said!! Sky apologised profusely of course. I am also getting them to write to me to confirm that my balance is £0 in case someone turns up at my door!!
What the hell else am I supposed to do? Sky assured me that the d company can't damage my credit rating, but I don't know...

Sick, sick, sick of trying to sort this mess out with rude, arrogant idiots, who treat people with 'debt' like sh*t on their shoe
Evil or Very Mad

Once you have the letter send a copy to the debt company. In the unlikely event they continue to harass you write to them again threatening them with court action if you here another thing from them.

If they still carry on begin court action against them. Don't just bluff, follow it through.

It's no good being polite once it's got to this stage. Time to start them worrying about being taken to court and losing.

Debt companies do this, its how they make their money.

If they were entirely honest and showed common sense they'd all go down the pan.

Do you have home insurance? See if you have any legal expenses cover.

I have used mine in the past for things like this where you are going round in circles.

If not, I would send a copy of the letter to Sky with a strongly worded letter of your own. At the end of the day, these debt collectors didnt guess you once had Sky. They would have had some sort of request from Sky to persue funds. Get Sky to sort it out!!!!

And if they turn up at your house Do not under any circumstances let them in! No matter what sort of bullshit they try to feed you. You don't have to let them in unless they have a warrant and are accompanied by a copper.

What he said. Not to "call head office", get a drink of water, get out of the rain - nothing. And don't sign anything "just to agree we called" or any of that crap.

If you're 100% certain you're in the clear with Sky, tell them to take you to court and advise that you'll be instructing a solicitor to begin a libel action if anything appears on your credit record regarding the matter.

Also make sure you don't leave any windows/doors open as a bailiff can enter through an unlocked door.

If I were you I'd be writing to the company stating that you consider any further communications on the matter to be harrasement which are a breach of Section 40 of The Administration of Justice Act 1970 and any further incidents of this nature constitute a course of conduct, which is a criminal offence under Section 2 of The Prevention from Harassment Act 1997.

Write a letter to James Murdoch - CEO of BSkyB, explaining the circumstances, copy it to OFCOM, expressing your 'disappointment' and get them to contact the Debt Collection company & say you won't consider the matter closed until you get a letter of apology from the MD of the Debt Company.

The stress, and the fact that the press would LOVE to hear how Sky are crap at administration and pass debts to companies that use bully boy tactics Smile

If young James sees that yo've been in touch with OFCOM, you won't even have to ask - he'll give it to you...the media companies are running scared of this Department - it's actually got teeth and can bite...

£85 fine? On the 'Siggi Scale' (TM) that'd count for a brick through every window at their head office. And once again for good measure, once they're replaced. Wink
