London Traffic

I've done the same journey on my bike - half way round the North Circular Road, every morning and evening for the past 6 years. Since the clocks went back, I've noticed that the traffic has been the worst I have ever encountered, with queues of cars and lorries nearly everywhere. Consequently I spend 85% of my journeys filtering. I'm used to it now, but is it just the North Circular or is it everywhere that volumes of traffic seems to have grown disproportionally?

Nope, it's everywhere.

In Aberdeen the queues are noticeably longer (up to a quarter mile longer) and in more places than they were before the hour changed. No-one wants to use the bus (standing in the cold waiting for a bus which never comes?) or cycle when it's cold, wet and dark, so there are that many more cars on the road. The trucks and buses are the same no matter what time of year.

feck, im still young, but i remember when most of the north circ from the gas works at bounds green to the ace cafe (and also the bit from the A10 to walthamstow) was single carridgeway ....the jams were like that back then, only with a tenth of the traffic.........

god help us in another 15 years

Yer I have noticed the increase in traffic as well I assume its because some people are going slower than normal. So I suppose its having a knock on effect on the rest of the traffic.

I have also noticed that some peoples driving seem to be worse as well. Nearly got taken out by a car tonight fortunately I anticipated what they were going to do which was strange in it self.

I live by a main road into central Portsmouth and traffic useally hits bad around 8:30am. For the past few weeks im getting up at 7. 7-30 and the traffic is even worse.

Where I commute (from Harrow to Heathrow) they seem to have taken the clocks going back as a signal to start roadworks EVERYWHERE!

As an example, just outside the centre on the main road, they are pulling up all the paving stones in the central reservation of the dual carriageway, and relaying them.

What the frakk is the point of that?! No-one walks on it, there are no houses or crossings, and everyone is too busy speeding to notice if they are wonky! There must be something more important to do with our money!

It's winter (apparently) therefore people think its cold and wet, therefore they must drive everywhere.

I walked from Canon St station to Liverpool St station in my jeans and a t-shirt this morning was a nice morning.

Back on topic: I've noticed an increase in traffic round the Bromley/Croydon area. Hence why I try and avoid riding anywhere between 5:30 and 7pm unless I really need to.

there has been a measureable increase in traffic in the past few months, for what reason i do not know, but its most frustrating

its so bad that if i hit the M4 at Reading heading towards London after 6.15am in the morning, i would consider myself to have failed. commuters are geting up earlier and earlier to combat it, and thus congestion is starting earlier and earlier

any time after that, and commuting into London on four wheels is an anger filled hour and a half slog and i feel drained before i even clock in at work

my current aim is to leave the house most days by 5.30, of course it often gets ignored, as a warm bed does strange things to your priorities when its dark and cold outside

rush hour has lasted for more than 1 hour for many years now, but the period of time twice a day when the road is filled with sleepy muppets is getting much longer to the point of ludicrous, and the standard of commuter muppets has dropped considerably, fuckwittery is at an all time high it seems , my horn is getting worn out
