Right im buying a cheap runaround for 300 quid tomorrow, BUT its got no tax. How am i going to get tax, because the V5 takes a few days to come doesnt it. Could i go to look at it and take the V5 (in his name) Mot certificate and insurance certificate (in MY name) to get it? Or does the insurance HAVE to be in the owners name?

You can tax it with the little slip of the V5 the seller give you while you are waiting for a new V5. The post office only let you do this for a limited time.

Can you??? Thats cool if you can, and what you mean a "limited time" you mean like 2 days after buying it or something? Also what are the fines/points for not having tax, if you are travveling to buy it?

Most Post Offices will need to see the original cover note or Insurance certificate. This is a problem I had when I was taxing my bike when I bought it, as I was waiting for it to be delivered for a week. Remember you will also need a valid MOT certificate and the V5 new owner slip.

Its got an MOT certificate, and you can use the little slip from the new owner thingy u get. But i cant get my insurance cover note until tuesday. Can someone with fully comp on a bike thats not the one im getting get tax for me??? ANd what is the fine/points for no tax?

No, the reason the post office need to see the insurance certificate is that they have to see that the bike is insured not just the rider.

I think anyone would have to be stupid to ride a bike without tax. But thats just my personal opinion! It invalidates your insurance as well.

i got my bike taxed after 2 weks without v5, just had green slip, plus MOT certificate and insurance cover note

FCUK that, i rode mine 3 miles without tax, to get to post office before it shut for weekend.

Right well i have got the MOT certificate, will have the little V5 slip and have printed a cover note from Ebike insurance which looks exactly the same as my old one on my old bike. So i think i will get it. If not im gonna have to risk driving 10 miles gome Neutral

I've taxed two different bikes with the DIY cover note from Ebike insurance without any problems.
