Why do so many people lie and advertise their bikes as good / mint condition ?.

Don't people realise that folks have eyes and will come round and see that they are dogs and not buy them? , and be angry about having their time / petrol wasted? , I've not yet moved to the stage of

I've taken to Siggi's view never go anywhere too far to look at a bike , nobody pays for your petrol but you ya know, but probably not to the stage of demanding money back for time and petrol.

I'm rather annoyed , I went round at least 150-170 miles round trip looking at some bikes all advertised as excellent or mint cept for a proper dog which I knew was a proper dog.

this awful bike today, advertised , as A1 condition

in reality bald tyres , crack on every fairing panel
worn to buggery sprocket.
cracked discs (?!)
huge ding in the tank bigger than mine and mine is huge
bent rear subframe
utterly buggered exhaust system which from the cold temp today I could see leaked.

he wanted £1300 for it , I had my doubts as he was revving it up as I approached. I left him dissapointed.

maybe they arent lieing at all,in their eyes it may well be mint.

mint to me is showroom condition, but may not be to others.

my advice on buying bikes is do not travel until you have all the info,i have travelled in the past but i always get the sellers to do large detailed photos in advance so i can check out if the bike is good or not.

i also research the problem areas of the type of bike im buying and get photos of these to check they are okay before travelling.

any seller who wont offer these photos i wont do business with,if they have nothing to hide and want to sell, then they will be co operative.

And there is no excuse eg got no camera etc,if you really want to sell....then everyone knows at least one person with a digital camera and email access.

so id say its there bad advertising(lower standards) and the buyers poor research......as with all my research i have always been able to buy mint bikes with no wasted time.

partly because they rely on some people not being too in the know, and think they are getting a barain.

Had it twice happen to me.

First time was when seeing a cagiva mito in north london which was descrided as "mint" for £1350 after traveling over 50 miles to get there the bike we were shown by a young paki lad was a piece of junk that was sezied and had been left un covered out side for a few years.

Second time was seeing a FZR600R for £750 in croydon which had loads of eletrical faults and had a seroius oil burning problem and was very tatty, which was descride as being in good nick and the guy told me over the phone it had no problems before l turned up Rolling Eyes

Itchy,
It used to be my living to buy cars and sell them on. Honesty was a major part in my trade as if the vendor wasn't honest then i wasted my time, and as a seller i was always straight with descriptions.
I was recently tasked with finding a Ford KA for my sis in law and it took 4 weeks.
It had to be the right price, colour, distance away, mileage and no rot / rust..... SO SO SO many people should not be hawking the shit i'd seen.... I ended up driving 35 miles looking at a car £250 more than we had and explaining to the vendor that we went witha view to picking fault and reducing the price, the car was MINT as per description AND the seller reduced the price to our budget Cool WINNER!!

It pays to wait, look, ask and be flexible to travel and negotiate.

Dude, if your looking for a 400 then it may be as well to sign up with greybike, takes only seconds and the knowledge and advice is terrific. If not only to give you an idea of what you can expect for what sort of price.

The link was to a (from the photos) mint NC30 in Grimsby for £1200. Very well cared for and the owner was selling due to health reasons. Forks recently been rebuilt by Graeme France (400 expert) and he became aware it was up for sale and was giving people the heads up.

Thumbs Up

i think it's because if there 100% honest and say its average or a rusty piece of tat then nobody would go and look at it, where as if someones coming round you could get a young lad/lass thats just passed there test, is desperate for a bike and doesnt really think about the faults.
