Nearly as good as an NSR.
Price I'm not too sure of (mine cost me £150 ). I'm assuming it's a VJ21. They go very well if a bit fragile. ____________________ If you dont like the way that I ride.......Stop trying to keep up!!! |

tbh i wouldn't go for it unless you were willing to be prepared to launch a lot of money at it.
fuel economy's not great.
(unless you're a 2t enthusiast) they sound lame.
hows it been looked after? that'll give you some idea of how much you'll be spending on its running costs. ____________________ Sahf East Winnah 4LYF

I have one.
They are basically like supermodels.
Feed them expensive liquids and lavish attention on them and they will do you proud for half an hour a week.
Occasionally, without warning it will explode and demonstrate that it is extremely temperamental.
For the time which they aren't causing hassle they are the greatest things in the world.
When they are hassle you honestly think it isn't worth the bother.
Personally I'd either buy one for a couple of hundred quid knowing that I might never get it to go as it once used to, or I might buy a freshly rebuilt minter for £1500, and then not be surprised when it blows up anyway. Mine has blown up, I suspect it requires new big end bearings as the piston hammered against the plug in the top cylinder (the one that is hard to get to).
When I was at Uni a mate of mine told me stories about his. He told me that it was the only bike he'd ever ridden that actually goads you to ride faster and faster. He said it whispers in your ear 'Go on, just a little faster, you know you want to'. He had it spot on IMO.
Until his suddenly lost power. It turned out that the two halves of the crank had come apart meaning that the bike will rev normally when in neutral or with the clutch in, but as soon as you put some load on the engine it dies. This is just one horror story that I heard.
In my humble opinion (and it is just an opinion so take it how you want) an RGV (particularly one that may have things wrong with it) is not a bike for a 17 year old who has just passed his test and just wants to get on and ride. Now I know that Maurice had one at 18 or so, but he complained of poor fuel economy, and I also suspect that he looked after his bike better than most 17-19 y/o s usually do. Plus his was OK when he bought it afaik.
This is a bike for the stereotypical 'beardy' man, the slightly older two stroke freak, or track fiend who likes showing up bigger bikes.
I have a bit of each of those in me, and so I understand why the bike is precious and beautiful, but I also understand that they can be complete pigs.
The bottom line is, buy it if you want but don't come crying to us if you can't get it going or can't afford another rebuild.
And if you write off an RGV250, I'll personally come and thump you for destroying something that is now quite rare and very precious.
Sorry about my ranty post, but its late and I'm getting sentimental about small two strokes. I think it might be the first signs of old age!! ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade

well you could always go for an RS250 which is a higher tuned RGV engine in a Aprillia Guise. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die.
