The 636 is really growing on me , I've checked the insurance and I'm shocked that its not that much more than the old rat I ride at the moment (must be getting old) can anybody tell me of the vices this bike has (you know like NC30s have the rectifier problem and VFR800s have chain adjuster seizes).

And or any alternatives or a good match for a 636? , which are not insane in the insurance dept?.

I'm thinking the NC30+NC35 will be utterly outclassed on the straights by the 636,

Or will it? my V2 1993 650 NTV was sorely outclassed yesterday with its 55bhp vs the 112bhp of the 636, but only on the straight bits and even then it was acceleration than top end since we were very very good boys yesterday and never went over 70 Wink ,

Shame since I like the small dimensions of the 400s , but thats progress for you.

any thoughts?

A lot of the new 600s have very compact riding positions.

Suspension should definitely be better, however whether it's the bike or you (including what you consider a 'reasonable speed' for a particular road) limiting your speed is another matter.

My wife has a 2003 B1H 636, it's a lovely machine but compared to my VTR1000 SP1 it's quite uncomfortable, maybe it's something you would get used to but if you're coming from a sit upright bike to a 636 it may take even longer to adjust. Fantastic bike though, cheapest of all the same year sports 600's and the most advanced in terms of tarty bits (USD forks, radial brakes etc which no other 600 had in 2003!)

If the A1P (first 636's) are anything like the J model ZX6R's they'll be very comfortable for a sports 600.

The 2001 model wasn't a 636 and was pretty much the same as the 2000 version. These were the J1 and J2 models.
The 2002 model was the same model, but with the extra 36cc; this was the A model.

The B was the first of the much more sports focused models, the C getting a redesign including underseat exhaust.

A model:

B Model:

C Model:

Generally I'd advice not getting new bikes, but there's some very good deals on new models - £5k otr with 0% interest fees over 3 years;

5k over 36 months, I guess 10% deposit... so about 125 quid a month to have a new 636 in the garage? thats tempting (just need a better job first)....

I have a decent J model ZX6R for sale still. check my sig.

Cost me at 20 with 1 yrs no claims £401 tpft to insure it.

Same as the 636 bar the engine. everything on the bikes is interchangeable including the screen braces. On the J model its a cage type thing on the A1P its a internal one.

The A model looks so dated.

The B and C models are gorgeous.

I have a B model 2003. Picked it up for £3300 in mint condition. Thought it was a one off but they seem to sell for around that price. heard that dealers won't pay more then £3500 for a B model with over 10k.

Just from looking at it you can tell it's meant for the track, the hand controls are well positioned if you do laps & the seat isn't really made for normal riding, which makes it uncomfatable after a while.

The B model is by far the more focussed of all the ninja models.

And yes, it is a lot lot faster than a VFR/RVF400, take it from someone who has both and regularly rides them on the road and track. The B1/2 has a very compact sillouette, and as G says, the handling is just as good as it is a lot more refined.

I like the NC30 for shits and giggles, but the B2 for its refinement and dedication.

I've got a 2003 636, it's fantastic track bike.
Not so good for the road due to the sadistic riding position and the little devil that sits on your shoulder shouting "FASTER FASTER FASTER".

I love my C model. No complaints with it, it feels bigger than the other 600's too. Find it quite comfy. Smooth, sharp and has that elusive feel good factor whenever you ride it or look at it Thumbs Up

I love my C model. Though it does feel smaller compared to Gixxerr.. The big petrol tank of Suzuki makes the difference. Though, there is no other better looking bike.
