I have finally got around to ordering myself an iPod (for when the snow comes and I have to get the bus into work instead of using the bike), but having downloaded iTunes to give it a go prior to the Nano's arrirval, I find it to be a hideous little program.

Is there any other software out there that will let me just drag and drop my folders onto the iPod instead of letting some crappy software try and organise things for me (and do a really bad job of it.)

Cheers. Thumbs Up

You can switch it to manual. Connect the ipod then go to: Preferences>Ipod

I believe you need iTunes to send music to your iPod and give it firmware updates.

That aside iTunes is an absolutely awesome program. Better than WMP, Winamp etc.

I can't see why people like it Jon B (and I know a lot do), I like my albums to be in folders on my spare hard drive, with a name I have given them.

When I let iTunes look for stuff, it took one look at my "Live Lounge" rip, and decided that 3 purely random titles from the album weren't part of "Live Lounge", and created a new album just for Lilley Allen, 50 Cents and another artist that I forget.

I'll try that Misc and see if that does what I want. Cheers. Thumbs Up

I thought the same at first, but I set it to only do anything when I told it to and it made the whole programme much less enfuriating. I like to know what my computer's doing, I don't trust it to do everything right.

It's only annoying if you tell it to organise the folders. Then it'll create millions of entirely useless folders.

And yes, it is annoying if you have lots of songs that don't have the tags set completely correctly.

I spent a few hours one night fixing all of mine. Then lost the will to live.
iTunes is good though.

Well I zapped everything that was in there, and manually loaded the folders in. Then went through the ones that had created their own folders and re-tagged them and that seems to be a bit better.

I guess that's as close to drag and drop as I'm going to get!

Thanks for the help guys!

It won't reorganise your folders if you don't click the box that says "click here if you want iTunes to organize your library" Thumbs Up

the Ipod uses an internal database to store the music information, it doesn't simply use the filename and location for it's music library, which is why you need iTunes to copy it across, as it updates the database.

nice piece of hardware design, shite piece of software/functionality design imho
