Hi guys This is my first post

I am new to riding (still on a cbt) and I need to know about parking. Can I just park my bike anywhere on the pavement. What about in car parks do I have to get a ticket?. I know these must be stupid questions but I don't know anyone with a motorbike to ask. Thanks

Alright mate

You can bike anywhere you can park a car, but not on yellow lines or pavements. You can park them in pushbike parks and get away with it because it says 'bicycle' on the tax disk.

What most lads do with scooters is park it anywhere you want, remove the numberplate or cover it up and the tax disc then the traffic warden can't do anything about it or touch your bike.

Parking on the pavement is illegal, but it depends where you do it as to whether you get away with it or not. I got a ticket for doing it in central London, but you're usually okay outside your house or outside shops as long as you park sensibly. Then you always could get a "brainiac" warden who will ticket you anyway.

You can cover your tax disk and number plate with a bag or something then they can't ticket you.

Different car parks hve different rules as far as I know but quite often bikes are free.

You just told a very great urban legend there it is not true that if you cover your number plate and tax disc that the traffic/parking warden cannot remove and then put back on whatever is covering it! He can remove it to do his job and then put it back!

I do generally tend to park my bike where ever I feel like!

In 'pay and display' places you basically have to go and read what it says on the meter - some will say that bikes are free, some will say not. In attended carparks, usually best to ask the warden.

Residents bays - they'll ticket you for if you dont have a resident's pass (I speak from experience!)

As the guys say, if your plate is covered, then you can't get a parking ticket. And councils generally don't have the kit to clamp or remove bikes, so you tend to get away with it.

I am currently having a year long battle over parking on pavement in westminster.
At the moment they cannot uncover your plate or disk if doing so could cause damage to the bike or the warden. ie the bike to falling over. grey area this although they can get really stroppy if its parked on a public right of way and this includes private property which is not chained or cordoned off. what i mean by stroppy is issue a yellow sticker warning the bike will be removed. Like they do with cars. And yes they can legally remove the bike.

The easy rule is you are at risk of a ticket or removal if it parked on a public right of way or any of the other restrictions in highway code.

Westminster are supreme wankers. I've had 17 parking tickets cos their attendants are too stupid to notice my resident's permit.

I'm from Southgate in North London. I've checked a few car parks in my area and they don't mention anything about bikes so I assume they are free. Just a bit concerned about parking in p&d's. Haven't done it because there usually full and my bike is big for a 125 so I can't fit it on without verging onto yellow line territory.

Only if it says so on the ticketing machine.

Otherwise they either just dont want bikes parking there, or you can buy a ticket and take it with you, so that you can send it in as proof if you get a PCN Rolling Eyes
