Car insurance - can someone clear up the old myth?

If I insure my own car fully comp, can I drive someone elses car with their permission? 3rd party?

I know something like that exists but I've heard many different variations.

It all depends on your policy. Some include driving other cars and some don't. Read your policy and it will tell you.

Depends on the insurer, some will let you & some won't.

My last insurer wouldn't let me, whereas my current one does.

Need to check your insurance certificate.

As far as I know the general rule is that if your insurers stipulate you can do it, you have to have the owners permission and the car itslef must be insured. This means you cant insure your mini 1.0 FC and drive your impreza third party without paying insurance. The level of cover will be dependant upon your insurers but is likely to be third party. Check your documents, they may state 'Cover to be provided for the use of another persons vehicle...' etc. but then say in the T&C's that you cannot have this cover unless you are 25 or over. Best thing to do is to ask your current insurer.

I'm with 'VILLERS' on this.

I do a similar thing at the moment. My Range Rover off roader is registered to my mate who has a trade policy, i drive it on my FC policy for my Discovery.
Technically the RR belongs to my mate and i just drive it from time to time.

The vehicle you will be driving on the 3rd party basis MUST be insured by someone though.
