Inclines and even wind often cause 50's to slow down dramatically. They simply don't have the power, my Senda wouldn't even rev out against wind.

Your only option is to change the gearing. Go a tooth down on the front and a couple of teeth up on the rear sprockets. Expect to loose some top end though.

If you're sure it's a mechanical problem try a new piston+rings, they could be worn. I would do them every 5000 or so miles on a 50 tokeep it runnign nicely.

Also if you have a high revving performance exhaust that wont help things as you will lose lots of torque.

Confused Confused Confused Rolling Eyes

It will run out of puff, you can use a Land Rover windscreen washer motor as a turbo for a bit of oomph.

Also consider using a RED 'power band' too in conjunction with an 'Iridium' spark plug.

You dont know?

Power bands are performance upgrades for your bike, they come in different colours, and depending on the colour you choose, boost power by upto %120 of what your bike makes as standard.
So if you install a RED power band on your 50cc, it will just about break the tonne... An orange one will double the torque and give you more useable power for town riding... but watch out, it will want to wheelie in every gear now, you will have the benefit of being able to burn off 600cc Sports bikes... Litre bikes will still have the legs on you though... just, only passing you when you top out at around 100....

A GREEN powerband is to be avoided... its for Cruisers and supermoto style bikes...

But i warn you, installing a power band on your 50cc will make it a beast to ride, you will have to watch out not to highside, and dont give it the beans from a standing start or you may well find yourself lying on your back...

Hope that helped, if not go to your nearest mechanic/dealer and ask them to explain the difference between a RED "power band" and a ORANGE "power band"... and make sure they know you are serious about purchasing one, and not just a time waster...

Wink

Sounds like you may need to adjust the idle screw, I had the same problem with the temp light, replaced the thermostat and it was sorted.

The exhaust may still be slightly restricted then, mine pulls to 10500 but its a spanish model so slightly different cylinder etc. yours should pull to at least 10k though, can you afford a sports exhaust?

I only mentioned the pipe as if its still slightly restricted that could be where your problem lies, though I can't say for sure. Thermostat I have no idea, dealer sorted that and they told me that was what they replaced(though considering this was in Spain the translation may be wrong anyway). I wouldn't piss around with the jetting for the moment, do a plug chop, meaning find a straight road, and hold the beast wide open for around 20 seconds, then hit the kill switch(don't go down through the gears) and coast to a stop at the side of the road(layby would be good though). Take the plug out and look at the colour of the electrode, it should be a coffee colour if the jetting optimum, white or white speckles indicates lean, black or darker brown equals rich. The needle is only for the mixture at part throttle, personally I think the bike is still partly restricted, do the plug chop first though and see what you find Thumbs Up

The thermostat is plugged into the cylinder head, should have a thick black hose coming from it.

The needle can be adjusted for running richer or leaner. If you want to go richer move the clip to the bottom notch so it allows more fuel. reverse for leaner running.

Don't forget the powerbands, I reckon a nice red one will work well Thumbs Up

yes, it's all about the red powerband. my TZ now has both an orange and a lemon yellow powerband linked to my Garrett T4 hybrid turbo I robbed off a toyota Supra.

I have a 0-60 time of -1.7 seconds.

For a 50, I'd also suggest a rubber band. Tie one end of it to your bike and another to a tree, push the bike backwards until its really tight and then slam the throttle. You might get an extra 15bhp out of it.
