is it possible to run a freeview box off a portable arial? or does it have to be the main one coming from the roof or somewhere like that? wouldnt mind have freeview in my room but can't be assed getting another line put up to the roof.

my kids have freeview boxes with indoor ariels and it work ok, although the signal can sometimes be a bit weak.

It really depends on the strength of your signal

I think you can get aerials which are optimised for your area/freeview
check the freeview site

Depends how close you are to the transmitter. Where about do you live?

After digital switch off in 2012 the Digital signal strength will be switched up so most portable aerials will be able to pick up Freeview easily. Currently the Digital signal is quite low because otherwise it would interfere with the Analogue signal.

Just looked at your profile and it says you are from North Wales, so I found a transmitter list of North Wales for you. If you anything more than 10 miles from your transmitter it is unlikely especially in North Wales that you will be able to successfully use a portable aerial. Please note that the transmitter relays currently don't relay digital signals. Only about 10 in the country do.

Thanks for that mate, I can't open PDF files but recall a big transmitter about 15 or so miles away I think. I'll probably try the freeview box downstairs up here and see if that works Thumbs Up
