Hey folks I was wondering if I could get the opinion of some techies on this laptop:

https://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0106424597.1164808623@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccfeaddjhkjmfhgcflgceggdhhmdgmk.0&chain=PC_World&seo=yes&sku=803207&channel=WEB&page=Product

It seems a really good price for a subnotebook computer

Pros as far as I can see
Price!
Good Processor
1GB ram,
2kg weight and small dimensions
DVD rewriter

Cons
Noname manufacturer (i think its a twinhead/averatec 2400 rebadged)
No bluetooth
3 hours batterylife
Windows media centre (i'll be putting linux on it anyway)

So what do you guys think? I can't seem to find a subnotebook anywhere near it on price and specs, some MSI laptops are similar at £100 more, closest i've found is the Fujitsu Siemans Si laptop with an extra 512 to make it equivalent at £100 more.

Its uses would be as follows;
Allow me to work on my development projects (delphi and java) on the go,
A nice play thing, :p
When I install wireless networks its nice to be able to take along my own laptop with some tools that help,
When I have to travel with work I can still work on some of my uni stuff (yeah right, but I might do at some point :p)
Watching downloaded TV episodes when im bored.

I could live without a laptop easily enough that I can only justify its expense if its really cheap :p

dell aint the best but they are not the worst, for the same sort of price you can get a deal from which has pretty much the same components for around 650 quid.

The closest DELL I could find was the 640m which is 0.5kg heavier, physically larger and about £80 more expensive, plus if I order from dell I can't check the laptop before purchase to make sure it has no dead pixels like I can in PC World.

Thanks for the tip though, I hadn't configured a dell in a while, was close until I had to match the ram :p

in all honesty m8, if you have time wait for another 3 weeks theres bound to be sales all over the place including dell and pc world,

now look at this one https://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/118194 @ 76 quid cheaper with pretty much the same specs.

The dead pixle is one things which i have no answer for, i know most manucaturers state upto 4 pixels can be out, and most places will not let you check it and hence that could mean you could loose out.

good luck anyways Thumbs Up
