hi if you have read my previous thread you will know that i have recently purchased an aprilia rs125 extrema. i have completetly dismantled the engine and replaced all of the bearings inc the mains. i ahve checked the amount of side to side movement on the conrod to shims and it is 1.5mm. according to my less than friendly local dealer it should be less than this . can somebody tell what it should be and also a good place to purchase a conrod kit if i need it.

thanks

If thats the case you'll more than likely need to find someone to split the crank and then press it back together within tolerance.

i have double checked and it is deffinitely 1.5mm. there seems to be no up/down movement from the bearing just side to side. seems like i will need a conrod kit .

I wouldn't be worried about riding that, while you are waiting for your new kit to arrive. If there was up/down play then it would be a problem but side/side I've done many miles with a 2 stroke way out of tolerance that way.

i spoke to a company called stan stephens and he told me the clearance should be no more than 0.5mm and i would be silly to put the crank back in with it the way ot is, so all i need now is to find a good place to buy a conrod kit from

i have had the crank all done and now have the engine completely rebuilt and sitting in the bike. was it worth doing - definitely - it starts straight away , is very quiet and is very responsive. all i have to do now is run it in for 500 miles and then i will get a powervalve (if i got one now i would be too tempted to twist the right hand too far)
