Hi,

I've just purchased a Z750s and unlike my last 2 bikes it doesn't have a centre stand, so maintenance is going to be a pain. Even oiling the chain will be fun.

Can anyone recommend a paddock stand that will suit the z750s and will I need front and back stands, I intend to do simply things like brake pads, oil changes etc myself.

Are they easy to get on to the paddock? (By yourself?)

Any help appreciated.

Abba are the best ones to get. Easy to lift on you're own & very stable.

It's easy enough to get on and off the stand but for chain oiling, if you have a hollow rear axle, it's easier to push a strong bar though it and lift it with bobbin hooks rather than mess around lining the cups up under the swing arm.

Lots of people said good things about the micron but i'm not impressed. It's stable enough but it leans worryingly to one side under the weight of my zxr.

If i ever bought another it would be an Abba or a Harris.

A general rule of thumb - square sections are stronger in bending than round ones (round sections are better in torsion). They're also more expensive, but a few tens of £ shouldn't be an issue if it stops your £5k bike falling a couple of feet into the ground.

Look for triangulation between perpendicular members and avoid anything which isn't solid - bolted joints don't behave anything like as well under tension as welded joints.

Abba kit is quality and gets rave reviews.

Abba stands are worth their weight in gold when it comes to maintenance. It's very stable and requires only 1 person.

I however use one of those BikeIT bike stands, which requires you to use a mate to balance the bike then lift it. But, for one handed operation, i shove it onto its sidestand, shove a few bricks under the stand to keep it level. Hook the cups onto the swingarm, then heave!

I've managed to drop the bike once doing it, cos i overbalanced it when trying to get it down.

Those harris box section stands look nice and are sturdy to use.

For paddock stands then Harris are truely lovely. A few quid more than the average, but really well made and worth it.

For workshop use then the Abba stand.

I've had a micron one in the past, was absolutely fine.

I now have an Oxford one, (cost about £30) that's pretty good.

And I've got a cheap cheap £20 one, which also does the job but isn't great.

I'm not lifting light bikes either, this is a bandit 600.

Obviously get the best you can afford, an Abba stand would be best (They make them about 50 yards from my parents' house).

There's a pic of G's R6 leaning at about 45 degrees on his paddock stand of doom. That's the design you don't want (and the same as my £20 one).
