How does reserve work on a NSR?

Okay this is going to sound dumb, but on the NSR, you have the fuel tap, on,off and reserve right?

Well i read somewhere you have 7 litres of fuel and a 2 litre reserve ( on the RK model anyway)

How does it separate the 7 litres of normal fuel from the spare reserve of 2 litres?

Cause like if your riding along and it cuts out cause of no petrol in the tank then were abouts is the reserve stored?

On my scooter, when you got to the top red line on the fuel gauge that would mean you had 2 litres left.

usually the tap splits it up, it has two rods coming off it one short one longer, obviously the shorter for reserve and it sorts out litres etc, this is only seen when you unscrew the tap from the tank and put it out.

Im with you know, so if i pull out the fuel tap i should see two pipes on the top which go inside the tank? One small one and one big one, got ya.

I really don't think that you should just pull the fuel tap out of the tank!

All I want is a fuel light, is that too much to ask for? I asked if it could be done and they just explained in a sarcastic manner what reserve was for, I insulted them and explained that I wanted a fuel light for convenience not because I didn't know what reserve is for and left!

Im not just going to yank it out of the tank! Done that too many times got a bit wet and smelly and then got chased by my mate with a fag!!!!

I will look on the NSR downstairs as its not connected up.

Reserve is a separate tank.

You have to remember to fill it up after you have used it, otherwise when you need to use it again, it will be empty.

Ha Ha, im soo funny.

When you twist the fuel tap from "on" to "reserve", it just draws the petrol from a lower point in the tank. Usually about 10cm lower.
