LB's just published an article about the new 1098 with loads of high-res photos. It's bloody gorgeous and I can't wait to see it in person! I've booked a test-ride and could well be tempted Smile The 999 didn't do it for me, but this is something else, very special! What do people think?

Just another Duke init. This time it's got Fireblade/T675 head lights and will cost a considerable amount more to service and buy parts for. IMHO of course.

I'm sorry but there's no way it looks like a fireblade.

Don't get me wrong, I love the fireblade and its a bike that has earned respect like no other in all fields.

But this new duke is a lot more exotic and exclusive looking. And I bet it sounds like Thor (the god of thunder) shouting an angry roar!

That's the thing with Dukes, everyone agrees that they are sexy and explosive.

But then people say they are 'expensive to service'. No, they are just delicate because they are so precise and, I like to think, immaculate.

Saying a Ducati is like a Honda that breaks down more often is like saying that a Ferrari 360 Modena is like a Toyota Celica that breaks down more often!!! (Granted, a very fast Toyota Celica!)

Exotic and exclusive are words usually kept for new or different designs, rather than bits that have been seen on last year's bikes.
I bet it sounds like an elephant having a wet fart. Some like the tractor sound, I'm not such a fan - I like something that says 'power' rather than 'slow with a hole in the exhaust' Smile.

If you've got a similar spec Celica, then yes. One someone probably gets to go very fast in, the other people most likely get to show off they've got a vehicle of that brand Smile.

I've never understood why people bum Ducati so much, and probably never will. I'm not really a fan of twins, the new 1098 looks the same as other Ducati's to me, the view from the front looks crap, and they generally seem far too overpriced for what they are.

i know people who don't like them because the 'clutch' rattles Rolling Eyes


and i think the quality of ducati bikes compared to honda, kawasaki etc is much better, just look at the welds on it, superb Thumbs Up

I should think a time-served welder could get higher quality welds more consistently than a computer controlled machine could. You never see the rejects from manufacturing plants, but I believe that when one of our suppliers went from hand manufacture to computer controlled manufacture, their quality control dropped through the floor. It took them some considerable time to get the same low rate of rejects as they had managed before they switched. When it can cost upward of $25,000 a pop for a cocked-up piece of machining, it matters just a bit. Shocked

Just because a computer can get a perfectly neat weld every time doesn't mean it'll get a perfect weld every time unless it is really well set up and all the bugs ironed out.

It depends on who is doing the manual welding. At the moment, the best human beats the best robot.

Personally, I quite like the fact that my bike was put together by only a very few people (in fact, I met them just a couple of months ago), who have to sign their work off.

I didn't say it looked like a Fireblade, I said it has Fireblade/T675 type lights which it has, the rest is fugly Ducati 999.

And I think you may be getting a little carried away. On average they are more expensive to service than their Japanese counter part, fact.

No you'd be better comparing a Ferrari to a Honda NSX and you can bet that the Ferrari would break down more and have more build quality issues.

If it takes your fancy buy one, me, I'll save me cash thanks. I don't need a bike to punish me every day I've got a wife for that.

Believe me i work for a large car manufacturer and the welds are perfect every time , unless there was a breakdown , but then thats a quick fix and off they go again , computer / robot welds are completed in the same time as it takes you to wipe your arse .
Just a selling gimmick to say hand welded when really they are all probably machine welded unless they havea plant visit where they all of a sudden just show some guy manually welding lol Rolling Eyes Wink Cool Shocked Thumbs Up
