Was travelling up the A1 today and saw a three wheeled scooter.
Not that strange you may think but it had two wheels at the front side by side Surprised and a single at the rear, does anyone know who makes these or any information as i'm a bit curious. Also what would the advantages be of having two front wheels, your thoughts please

yeh, it made a show on top gear and for some reason the motor show of 2006.

Apparently its legal for a 16 year old to drive and can sit 2 people i think.

I did a quick google search to find nothing of interest maybe someone knows abit more than i do!

Well, they corner fast. Morgan were one of the first companies to make a vehicle like that in the form of a car.

Alternatively, it might have been a specially adapted vehicle for a wheelchair user.

Or was it a piaggio MP3?

think I saw that in a bike magazine once, from what I remember theres a button you can hold so the front wheels lock in place, so you can stop without putting your feet down.

Had a go on one today, a Piaggio MP3 250ie. Very funky to look at and definately not something to ride if you are averse to being watched! The front end is quite stylish in real life i.m.o (looks like an outrageous skidoo), but the back end is pretty much the same as most big scoots (quite boring). There is absolutely loads of luggage space though. It's quite nippy and rides well, particularly at low speeds. It feels like it tracks a bit due to the double front wheels, but it's ultra stable going round roundabouts where it feels solid and planted and it seemed to have pretty good ground clearance. I was pretty confident leaning it over with its three wheels, much more so than a traditional scooter. It's just marginally wider than the other 'traditional' scooters on the market at the moment, but its widest point is at the front as opposed to the rear), so it will still hold its own and be a pretty good commuter vehicle in this respect. The two front wheels have independent suspension so going up kerbs at an angle is not going to unbalance you like on a 'normal' bike. There is a handbrake to release on the panel facing the seat and a rocker switch on the right handlebar that releases the bike from its locked upright position once you are happy and comfortable to go with your feet down. Acceleration is smooth and progressive. When the bike reaches a specific slow speed a warning sounds to remind you to either prepare to put your feet down or put the bike in a locked upright position. It won't lock above a certain speed for safety reasons! Would I buy one? Not really, it's not my cup of tea and I would soon get bored with it to be honest. At £4200 for the 250cc version (they also do a 125cc and a 400cc, with a 500cc due later on) it's not cheap either plus that front end looks a pig to work on so the service costs and maintenance could be pricey.
Neutral Cool

Now if they add a little roof for the crap weather we have here, like the BMW C1, they could turn London in something akin to Rome with commuter scoots.

A couple of years ago I saw a moped tricycle, with 2 wheels at the back. The difference was there was nowhere to sit inside. I was wondering what the hell it was for when 2 kids and another in a wheelchair came along, they unbolted the back, rolled him inside, and hopped on their own scoots. Wicked idea if you ask me. so what licence would you need to ride one of these?
would the bike section of your licence cover it or would it be the three wheeler section?
I know it sounds like a stupid question but I passed my bike test several years before my car test. When I applied for my full car licence I didnt request for the three wheeler catagory to be kept on my licence and it was removed.

i would have thought due to its weight it would be classed as a motorbike rather than a 3 wheeled car, but this is little more than a guess

Far as I know, trikes are now category B1 which you used to get with your bike licence but don't any more. Pretty sure you get it automatically with your car licence now though.

Just checked on the DVLA website and category B1 is defined as "Motor tricycles / quadricycles, 3 or 4 wheeled vehicles with an unladen weight not exceeding 550kg"

There may be exemptions for short axle widths that makes that piaggio a motorcycle though.

It's on fifth gear now....

And as quick as a flash, it's all over.
There was a bit of nerves about how wide it was and a struggle filtering.
Then it was timed around a kart circuit against the bloke's (sorry, don't know his name) Vespa - the 3 wheeler was 3 seconds faster.

Still looks ugly Confused
