It's an *.AVI file, which means its not dependant that you have to use DIVX, a up-to-date copy of Windows Media Player should do the trick.

saved file to my lapytop, opened it up in the most recent version of media player - for which, up untill now, i thought was loaded with all the codecs under the sun (Inc DivX). I have downloaded tones of different codecs for all my different vid/media players, none of them will play it.

I don't have Vice City for the PC, so am unaware of any mods etc, but I assume that you just download a patch to get the 996?

when i try and watch it with windows media player, i see him walk up to the bike, but as soon as he gets on it it freezes.

It does on mine too, its a DivX error on your videocard, or your PC is just, well, shite.

Just click it a tiny bit before where it froze and it'll be fine, a right pain though.
