On my 1st proper day out after passing my DAS it was cold early in the morning, so cold in fact that I was in pain with the cold in my fingers and thats with a pair of gloves that cost me £60 - i thought wind proof water proof crash proof would be warm. Not a chance took me nearly an hour to warm my hands back up properly and the ride back wasn't half as much fun as it should have been. Well its been warmer since and I was still reluctant to go out on the bike, Contemplated heated grips, but they would allow cold air to still blow over my hands - Use mitten covers for the bike I hear you say - not a chance. Would look obscene on a cruiser. So I opted for these - https://www.realshopping.co.uk/acatalog/Battery-Heated-Glove-Liners.html - as they can be heated 3 different ways and also heat the fingers as opposed to the palm. Also are glove liners so will be worn inside the glove. Tested them out and they are lovely snug and warm. Even looking forward to getting out on the bike more for a proper test this weekend (waves goodbye to the wife) Comes with battery (rechargeable) pack too so can use out in the field when I do my photography. Very Happy

I use thick, black, generic cheap-as-chips leather gloves.

My fingers can sometimes get a bit cold but I've never really had too much of a problem...

But then I suppose if you're talking about motorway commuting that is a completely different situation Smile

seem very expensive to me for heated gloves.
i'd go for heated grips at that price tbh. as they are incredibly hot and would do enough to heat all of your hand.

but, what i'm gunna go for is just a cheapo pair of gloves that are heated (about £15 on ebay). not safe in a crash. but tbh you lose more concentration and are more likely to crash through extreme windchilled hands.

scuba diving gloves under your riding gloves work a treat, make sure you get the 1.5mm ones not the thicker 3mm. I've worn mine under my summer gloves for two winters and swear by them.

Looked at them a few times and pondered, even gutting a pair and basterdiaseing them into some propper gloves..

£130 rips the piss when all your getitng is the same thing, with a plug and some cheapo gloves Thumbs Down

Muffs do work extrodinaraly well i have to say, i made some for well under £5, but i'd spend it on propper ones if i wasn't so cheap, they are worth it.. (but since mine woudl have needed addapting the feck out of it was as easy to make some from scratch)

edit: ahh, i did try some scuba stuff on in a decatlon store, felt too much of a loon so didn't bother.. how are they? do they make crontoll more difficult at all? how big are the summer gloves they go with? (live really loose without?)

Im interested to know how he gets on with them.
I bought a pair of the 3 finger gloves from gerrike and they were great untill about a week later I took them off and they turned in side out to which was irriversable,
I took them back, got a refund and now Im waiting on my local CMC (now smc) to get some xxxl thermadore 3 finger gloves. if they dont I get some from customlids.com.

would be interested to know of anyone here who has managed to find away to keep toes warm on long high speed runs.

Hi

Generally I like having hot hands from the grips. And heated grips work well with a fairing.

Looking at the heated gloves, those connectors look like they might be the same as those use to connect an Optimate charger. Might be an easy way to plug into a bike rather than using a battery pack (although I would be a little concerned that the connection might not come apart easily enough in the event of an accident).

JTS make some reasonably priced 2 finger gloves which are leather. Just have to hope that they do not start killing off anything with cloven hooves while you are wearing them.

All the best

Keith

See I don't think it's got cold yet? I've only been riding for the last 4 weeks but not once thought about my hands... So either my gloves are pretty warm or I've got warm hands? My ride to work isn't long (15 miles) enough for them to get chilled and I can't go quick enough to get a wind chill Embarassed

Anyway currently I use a pair of Alpinestars ST-1 Waterproof Road Gloves with no under glove. Unfortunately they're not armored.

It isn't yet for me either. Haven't even got round to putting a jumper on before my bike gear.

My recently-fitted heated grips are really good, especially at slower speeds.

I did find on the motorway though that the ends of my fingers were tingling a bit with the cold cos my hands are so small that the ends of my fingers don't make contact with the grips properly (if that makes sense?) and are also getting most of the wind blast. Next time I'm doing that kind of riding I'll be testing my muffs with them, which I think will help a great deal.

I had a weird ride last weekend. I thought, it isn't cold, I'll go out in my summer gloves, as the last ride I wore my Winters and ended up with sweaty hands and gloves which took some removing! After 10 minutes my pinkies were tingling with the cold, arrived at Halfords, did a 5 minute shop, got back on the bike for another half hour and hands were warm as toast! How did that happen? Does global warming work that quickly? Laughing

Subject close to my heart, I suffer from vibration white finger a recognised industrial disease from using vibrating tools (no jokes pleeeeese!) desueter tools for trimming metal....which over a 2 year period of regular use damaged the nerves in my hands (thumbs and first 2 fingers)
As soon as my hands get cold which, is as soon as I get down the road my hands start to really hurt the pain is excrusiating and riding the bike is not a pleasure in that respect, anything that can keep my hands warm is worth a look.

Personally I had a lot of success with a £20 pair of "Winter" gloves off ebay. Work well for the cost.

As for keeping them warm on motorways, I often move one of my hands off the bar and rest it on the headstock, and switch over every 5 minutes - Keeps it out of the wind.

With a cruise control clip thing, the kind where you slide a thing across and it kind of jams the throttle by means of friction.

nice post, a topic I've been pondering over for a while, was also thinking of heated grips and can see at lower speed they would be ok, but I'm also doing motorway rides. A good 25 mins on the M56 so am reserved in getting the grips, and then the heated gloves dont look like they are as good as my current gloves with protection.

Also winter gloves though good, I find to big and bulky.

Sure there has to be a nice reasonably priced solution out there.
