with my 99 CB Hornet 600, i am getting about 120 mile to a tank (before it runs out and i have to swtich to reserve)

Does this sound about right you lot?

oh yeah, went out for a looooong ride today! saw loads of bikers go past and nod (i feel so proud!) and on the way back this GSXR and i where having a bit a mess around, and we stopped at some traffic lights. The engine cut out on me again as the fuel had run out, and i pulled up next to him and switched to reserve. Couldnt get the engine goin straight away and he went off. I managed to get going and he turned around at the bottom of the road to come back and help! i thought "What a nice bloke", and nodded as i went passed!" Good to see bikers can stick together!

Yeah, I read on another forum that it goes to about 100-120 miles before reserve...pretty normal. Ashame they didn't put a fuel level gauge somewhere.

Might want to check out www.hondahornet.co.uk for some more info on the bike, bits and bobs and they also have some useful tips over there...cool place. Although, I just lurk there at the moment. Smile

yup.... being a new(ish) rider i was so happy the day i was coming home from the test centre and guys on bigger bikes gave me the nod and wave... made me feel right at home!!!

what would an NSR or RS 125 do to a tank? I have been told that 2 stroke engines arent as economical as 4 strokes. Is this right Question

Correct, 2 strokes eat fuel and burn oil.
Only because of the state of tune they are in.

In defense to that they make alot more power than there rival counter part of a 4 stroke bike at the same capacity.

Most I have managed out of a tank of petrol on the RS is 179 miles (using 11L of petrol)

The fact that Ste will have done most of them at a steady speed wont have anything to do with it though would it ste. Razz

The lack of fairing will affect the fuel consumption, but really it comes down to the way you ride. Some times I get 120 miles some times I get a 170 miles (motorways - steady speed) on my CBR6.

Your milage is about right mate, and thats all you need to know. Now get out and enjoy it.

I think hornets have quite small tanks, whereas the ZX6 has a big one.

Also kawasaki 4's seem to use no fuel when ridden at a steady speed - I recall phoe getting silly miles to tank out of his ZXR4.

I prefer my VX though. However I ride it or load it I get 155-160 miles to reserve, which equates to about 46-47mpg. Not bad for an 800cc V twin thats always 2-up.

The Hornet has a 16 litre tank, I think (the new ones have a 17 litre tank), which is about 3.5 gallons, which means that the bike does around 30-35mpg, which sounds about right.

Mmmm, the GPZ500 does have one major plus point. 220+ miles before reserve. The FZ is about the same.

Bandit does about 140 before reserve, and another 40~50 on reserve.
