Sorry to bring up a thread about k@rma.
But i've been wondering how the system actually works.

Does the *green blob / gold blob* system work on a rank per post. Or does it just go on average over ALL The posts you have ever made.

Just the thing Is, I was on 3 Gold'ies about 6 months ago, Then Me and Jordan had that Salmon slapping link game Compo, And I spam'd every forum with the Link. Ended up on like 5 Red blobs.

Now ever since then, Ive never actually reached Gold again.


So I was wondering if it would be harder for somebody with say 2000 posts, and a 50/50 good/bad rating to reach gold from where I am.

Or wheather it would be the same, as say somebody with 10 posts, with a 50/50 good/bad rating.


if that makes any sense at all?

Every rating is different in the way it affects the post rating, the overall thread rating, the posters karma and even your own karma. Please use the ratings wisely and without malice, because if your ratings are judged to be unfair or have to be revoked by a moderator you will find your karma rating suffering.

Finally a few questions and answers relating to ratings:

Q) Why should I bother rating posts?
A) Because it is seen as community participation, and can earn you karma.

Q) Does that mean I should go around rating every post to get good karma?
A) No, the karma boost from rating posts does not depend on how many you have rated, or even how you have rated them. The formula is very complicated, and I'm not going to reveal exactly how it works, but sufficed to say if you try to abuse the ratings in order to gain karma - you'll be unpleasantly surprised.

Q) Will I lose karma for giving posts ratings?
A) Only if your ratings are found to be unfair, or a majority of users vote the other way. In some cases, you can even gain karma for handing out bad ratings.

Q) What does it mean when a rating is revoked?
A) It means the rating was judged very unfair by a moderator, and its effects were reversed. Depending on their history with post ratings, the person who cast the rating may have also had their karma lowered because of it. If you're not sure why a rating was revoked, ask the moderator who revoked it.

So in effect, if no-one likes you, you're fucked!

don-tony, the answer to my question is not in what you have just posted.

The question I was asking is wheather the more posts you have made, the more it takes to move the karma rating up a level. Or wheather it runs on your previous 10 posts / 100 posts etc...


Not particulary bother about my karma rating tbh. Just somthing ive always wonderd thats all.

I think I read somewhere that each blob requires twice the amount of karma than the last one.

I have been on five green blobs forever, it's not a conspiracy, I just dont type accurately enough or have anything interesting to say, so I rarely get rated. If I was more interesting I would have more blobs

Spelling cannot play that much of a role in karma seeing as Colin1 got to three gold blobs at one point. As we all know very well, he has poor spelling and grammar skills. Mostly down to laziness on his part.

Perhaps stating the obvious and posting long posts of absolute drivel can raise your karma.
