OAP cake help...

'Tis my mother's 60th birthday in January and I have arranged for a cake decorator to make a cake for her that will be presented at the restaurant.

Her and my stepdad spend half the year travelling around Europe in their mobile home, so I chose that as the main cake body. I have attached a drawing of what I have thought so far (god knows how you can make a zimmer frame out of icing - but I'll let her worry about that Laughing

) What do you think? We're not an overly sentimental family, so I was going more for comedy than slushy.

What I fancied on top was a picture of a pension book, but with the words changed so that it says Happy 60th Mum from your sons etc. , but I have no idea what a pension book looks like. Does anyone have access to one they could scan? (PM it to me if you don't want to post it on here - and obviously blank out the details)

If anyone has any other thoughts about what I should do please let me know. (and no, I don't want any photos of old people doing it - I know this group far too well Laughing

)

Ha! That just reminded me that for my mates 30th we made a skunk cake, but ridiculously put almost 1/2 oz of gear in it. One slice and an hour later and everything looked to me like I was looking at it through a tunnel. My mate (not the guy who's birthday it was) passed out at the table in a pub after a couple of slices and only woke up to announce that he thought he had pissed himself - which he had. Brilliant. Laughing

I am letting her add the details and colours via some photos I will take of their mobile home. It's more something to adorn the sides/top of the vehicle that I am needing. That's why I was thinking pension book.

I just got an email of a friend who tells me that very few pensioners have pension books these days, it's all Direct Debit.

I think that would imply a more "bon voyage" type cake, not a happy 60th one - although I see where you're coming from.

why not have the zimmer frame stuck to the bac of the van as a posed to the top, then have a picture of the front of a passport-style pension book on the top? not trying to impose or anything..

just an idea, good luck with whatever you choose... Thumbs Up

I think I'll have the zimmer frame attached to the back, the road sign on the top (instead of the elusive pension book) and a pair of gnashers tucking into it somewhere.

I will do. It's about 7 weeks until her birthday, but I want to make sure I have this sorted. What with booking the restaurant for 25 people this week and Christmas coming up this is going to be an expensive couple of months Shocked

That's not a bad idea. I have knocked up one with the falsers and all that on (there'll be colour on it on the real one - I think the van is white with blue stripes). I'll quickly do one with a trolley as well and see what people think...
