just been done by a bus lane camera, not happy seen as it was empty and i was just over the line Evil or Very Mad

this was caught by a cctv cam on top of a high pole in ec2, thought bus lane cameras where just grey boxes that were easily spotted,
WRONG!

50 quid gone, so i wondered does anyone know if the small number plates can be read by these cameras, and whats the chances of being done by cops, also what punishment can they dish out for having one?

who would y'all recommend as a supplier and what size?
Cheers me dears.

I'm pretty sure that there is a legal requirement to the minimum size of a number plate... Screw me if I know it but I'm sure someone more helpful than me will know it Wink

As for the whole "being caught" scenario... my mate is riding a Thumpstar replica and using a miniplate that's basically hanging off his seat. He's not been caught and he's been riding for at least 6 months on it (and there's no shortage of police around here).

there are loads of places you can get small number plates from just google 'small number plates'

On this site you customze the plates, they have a few different sizes

Not sure what the penalty is tho sorry

They'll be able to read it unless you have it at a bizarre angle. I've been caught twice, and they got me at an obscene distance and yet my plate is still perfectly legible, those cameras zoom in a long way!

Cheers for all that guys, so what your saying is even if the plate is teeny tiny it can still be read by the swines?

I have a 9 x 3 on my VFR. The plate is under the tail. Half the plate is hidden when you look at it from the angle of a speed camera. Never had any trouble from Police, and been pulled over for a separate incident whilst it was on.

If its so small a camera doesn't pick it up at all its likely you'll get pulled for it.

Why do you want a smaller plate if you were just over the line?

If you don't do it often I wouldn't see the need for it. In Northern Ireland it is legal for bikes to use most bus lanes at any time I thought that was the case in all of the UK?

Anyway I would have thought it is better to take the chance of crossing the line than looking over your shoulder for the pigs all the time Laughing

I wish i lived in N.I then Laughing

even if i don't do it often (and i don't) i will still get fined when i do.
you cant run in bus lanes outside the times shown on the signs.
my mistake was looking for a camera that takes a picture.
this was cctv and some eagle eyes swine caught me and sent me 2 lovely pictures of my arse end.

Have you seen the pictures yourself? I know its only £50 but if they haven't got solid proof of the plate they can't touch you Neutral And I'm sure you'd rather have £50 in your pocket than theirs.

this is true and then i can buy a smaller number plate init Laughing

however i have a letter with two colour pics showing me on the bike, strange thing is neither of them show the plate as clearly readable.
but the top of the letter shows my plate number.
i guess they must have a better shot of it or maybe cleared the picture up C.S.I style Very Happy
wondering if it's worth appealing as i haven't yet paid, was going to tomorrow.

when i got done by a dedicated buslane cam a few months back it was two black and white pics one of which i could clearly see my number.
Banged to rights on that one.

i've just sent an appeal to Islington council via email.
it's a bit harsh but then i've not been awake long and i'm not a morning person.
Here we are................

'Good morning,

I received this pcn and am not happy with the evidence shown to me on your letter.

It shows a blurry CCTV image of a black motorbike and no detail of the number plate.
I would like a clear and true image that can show the number plate of this vehicle so that i can accept this notice.
Otherwise i see your claim as fraudulent.

Also the bike is only just in the bus lane with no buses around it.
It is also presenting no hazard to road users or pedestrians.
The bike in question is clearly leaving a safe gap from the cars on it's right and in doing so has crossed the line by some 3 inches into the empty bus lane.

In summary,
This is not only presenting poor evidence as an out of focus picture will not stand in court so why presume that i will accept it?

also

I deem this notice unfair as the bike was only in the bus lane for the purposes of safety.'

and that's that.

I know it's me in the pics but i want to make their lives harder than it should be by making them bang me to rights, then it's a fair cop,
otherwise they will get worse and probably have days where they just take a number out of a hat and send the poor bloke a ticket Laughing

If the reply is worth posting i will, and for the record this appeal should be tried by anyone getting a PCN just to cost the slags time,
It doesn't cost me anything as it was an email and can be as blunt as you like, the worse that can happen is they turn you down and the 14 days you get to pay the reduced fee starts again from the date of the refusal. Thumbs Up

If you fancy going out on a law-breaking hoon just take your plate off. No chance of the cameras raping you, and it's a £30 fine if you get pulled. Trouble is you'll definitely get pulled if a copper sees.

And to top it off, all of your day's illegal activies caught on camera will be useless because of a lack of a number plate Laughing

So if we all take our plates off and hoon it around, will the first one to be caught get the blame for it all? Smile "Play the biker lucky points lottery!"

So let me get this straight? You get less for not displaying a No. plate than you do for failing to display an L plate!

This is one crazy world we live in...

It seems I was wrong, it is a maximum of £1,000. But I think that's only if it's a repeat offence and they know you've be roaring around without one on. I think the standard penalty is £30.
