What's called, how much does it cost, and does it actually work? You know what I'm referring to, it goes on the base of the helmet and keeps the freezing winds from crystallizing your mucus. Is it messy? All responses appreciated.

Sometimes referred to as a 'helmet skirt'. Sold by Motrax.

Never used one.

I know one guy who tryed one and he said its the bigest waste of money hes ever waisted, utter shite.

You'll be far better off with a decent windstopper balaclava

It works ....

when it stays on , which it doesn't esp in rain

working I mean cuts down on wind noise and stops cold air getting in which causes visor misting problems,

but as said as long as it stays on it works, but mine never stays on more than 40 minutes at motorway speeds,

if you had £££ and sacrificed one you could sew velcro onto the inside of it where it holds it on and stick velcro onto the outside of your lid but then this comes to glue vs helmet problems

My experience, works 'ok', though not great - use in combination with some kind of neck tube etc.
If you're serious about it, reckon you'll have to glue it on.

Buy a Buff...

They cost about a tenner, you can buy them online or in places like the ace cafe...

They are a windproof/moisture wicking seamless necktube that can be worn in loads of ways... one of which i have taken to recently in the cold weather is a skullcap/bandana/helmet skirt... (even when off the bike..)

I have two, when working on the bike in the winter months i use one as a skullcap/helmet liner, and the other as a necktube (goes right up to below my eyes)... so you have the effect of a full balaclava but its easy to roll down so you can talk to people or be seen...

Plus there are allot of designs to choose from
Mine is a Black one with red Chinese dragons

Theres a video below that shows most of the different ways you can wear it...

I would like to point out im not affiliated with the Buff company... just am impressed with their product...

Excellent advice gentlemen and I thank you. The two new options seem far superior to the one I was originally investigating. Unfortunately, as the missus was sitting nearby whilst I ready your replies she now insists on knitting me a scarf. I'll still be sure to give the 'balaclava' and the buff thingers a closer look. Thanks again.

I had one and it worked perfectly apart from the fact it kept falling off!! so I velcroed it in about 6 places around the helmet and after that it was okay. Cool definetly makes it quieter and warmer.
