first off, due to time (girlfriend) and lack of good internet connection i've been off for a while...so sorry about that lads/ladies but i've now got a bike on the road. a 15year old XJ900, the bike before the diversion and though it's slightly more powerful as standard there's pretty much no major difference apart from the styling.
according to Matt/minesweeper apparently it's not possible for his RVF, or my XJ to hit the indicated 150...well there's no way to get an accurate reading off of his when it's way over it's limit but mine was 150, and later looked like it was a little over 155 though my speedo "only" goes upto 150.
it's got a stainless 4-1 Motad and must've been dynojetted and as standard max speed is less than 130 for these i'd assume it's putting out about the 105-110bhp mark Smile

As for the RVF, well that's a beast! ok, so twin rads with extra fans say to me that it's running VERY lean, add to that a race zorst, air filter and dynojetting and with him caning the poo out of it he accelerates the same speed as i do when pulling from about 5k in top gear. taking nto accound the weight i reakon it's about 80hp...but i also think it drinks a fucking load of fuel getting there!

anyway, my new bike's as smooth as shagging a ky factory, really nice to drive but it also gives it hard when you want it to! hopefully i'll see some of you arund box hill (i was there yesterday) or anywhere else if you fancy a ride.

ps, it also did a stable 150 with my girlfriend on the back...ooh what fun it was overtaking cars as if they were stationary Cool

Hi Milo,

There's no way without a rebore to hit 80hp.

The best is around 75-77hp with lots of engine work and all the trick HRC parts such as airbox, airbox mods, new ignitor etc. Looking at 2-3k for those mods.

The 450cc big bore kit creates around 82hp straight from the box with no other mods.

well, that was me guessing. i mean i'm following the boy on a 100-110bhp 900 and not much catching up is being done between 30 and 100...so maybe is is bored out. it's an ex-race bike so anything and any budget's a possibility.

Glad you are enjoying your bike however I believe your speedo needs adjusting. Recent figures for the XJ900 divvie give top speeds of 131mph and 88bhp , I know yours is a slightly different bike and don't know the exact figures but I think 150mph is very optimistic no matter how good the exhaust system is. Perhaps a 'realistic' top speed would be about 135mph for both your XJ and also Matts RVF.

fair enough, but i also did 130 on my old GPz550 and i know what the speed difference feels like. okay, so it could be a true 135, but that's with the speedo being on it's legal limit which i assume is quite unlikely anyway.
I agree standard it should do 125-135 but with dynojetting, zorst and air filter that's gotta add some more oomph.
well, when i meet up with any of you guys it'd be very interesting to see what it can do. I caned a fireblade off the lights last week...and yes he was trying. that's down to a huge weight advantage/disadvantage at the front. i can give it loads more before the front rises off the lights.

although you probably wont have enough run up to try a full speed run it would at least give you an idea of what the bike will be capable of. You can race me with my 109bhp and top speed of 150ish mph Smile

I've got a Fireblade, and I'd love to see a 15yr old XJ900 beat me off the lights, thats assuming it doesn't dump its oil and blow a gasket b4 the wheels start turning Rolling Eyes
