Hi
Does anybody know anything about this bike. I'm going to Florida soon and I wanna get a bike over there, so I've been scowering ebay.com. There's quite a few of these 250 ninja's going cheap as chips- good low milage examples as well. Anybody have any idea of performance, reliability (crucial) or why they're so worryingly cheap?
Also, any idea of how much insurance costs in the states, as compared to over here?

thanks alot

By the look of the top end it looks more like a 4 stroke.

And a comment my dad just made when he walked past just made me laugh my balls off..

"Thats an ok bike...Apart from the colour..."

there my old man has spoken, Kwak green is evil!

Now I'm confused Smile

I like it- particularly from the front. I have to say I love kwak green as well, but I can see why people don't Smile

the kawasaki site has this on it https://www.kawasaki.com/motorcycle/movie.asp?bike=ninja250r and the pic I put up was on ebay as a ninja 250.

I'm quite confident its 4 stroke cos 2 strokes aren't road legal in the states. No idea about model numbers and stuff though. Alot of the examples on ebay are called EX250's. Where's keith? Wink

The 250R is powered by a liquid-cooled, in-line twin-cylinder four-stroke engine, with dual overhead cams and four valves per cylinder

So its not going to be lethal when speed is concerned...

I wouldn't expect amazing reliability from the lump, chances are that parts of it date back to the GPX250 engine, which is less than amazing.

UBG don't think much of it - buzzy, not much top end or bottom end.

Are there any vaguely high mileage examples (above 35k) for sale? If not its a sign that the engine won't last that long. UBG reckon 20k if neglected and 40k if looked after.

Sounds like a piece of shit. Anything stopping you getting a 500 twin?

Hi

In the UK that bike was called the GPX250, but never saw one in those colours. Not fast (about the same as a full power 125 2 stroke, but without the fun power delivery of a 2 stroke). Very good on petrol (and you will have one with USA petrol prices Laughing ). Should be reasonably reliable

All the best

The reason they are so worryingly cheap is because over there they are very cheap new. It's an old design, nothing flash about it at all it's just cheap transport

Yeah I wasn't expecting anything too exciting- but I need something cheap (I'm not even sure if I can really afford a bike) with bullet-proof reliability so I can travel around on it. I've looked around a bit more tonight and like you say they're only just over $3000 dollars new, so about £2000. Very cheap. I would love something bigger, but its just the cost. Maybe if insurance turns out to be cheap over there I will go for a bigger bike, but this just seems like a very practical choice. If I buy a used one in good nick then surely it will last for the year that I'm over there with no trouble. I'll get a test ride to see if its fast enough.

thanks for the advice.

its very similar to the cbr250 (in looks) and probably engine, its an in-line four, water cooled.

probably a good choice of bike there, but its gonna lack a little bit off power Wink

Unfortunatley, apparantly, track days in the US are becoming more and more sparse due to the litigation culture we're slowly starting to adopt.
However I believe this has meant more participation in club racing, which can't be a bad thing.

but they all use gixer 1000s on track and sp2! nothing smaller, but they are pretty long and you need the top end and aceleration for the straights!! and torque for corner exits.

No, it is a parallel twin. Very similar to the GPZ500 engine

All the best

The ZXR250 is indeed an inline 4 a'la CBR250 complete with insane 20kish redline. Looks like the 400 and 750 but smaller.

Nah, the ZX-2R is the bike that was originally posted. Known over here as the GPZ(X?)250.

250 4s, still lacks power and really has very little torque, go for a 600, there not too fast when you get used to them, i'm on my second now and got used to it so quickly, my recent bike, reached its limit within 2 days of having it! and ran it in in that time too, then 2 days after tracked it! now time for and R1 Twisted Evil maybe not Wink

but with 600s you'll have more fun (ie wheelies Laughing Cool ) and it'll last longer because you wont get bored of the power!! hehe
