Just spotted this on the BBC news website

At some points they were doing about 65mph and more in a 60 - wow what crazyness. So you are telling me that had they stuck to 60mph they would never have crashed.

These sort of comments drive me mad - bloody hell he could have been doing 30 in a 60 and crashed - what would they than have said - speed limits too high?

Oh and the comment about tinted visors - and he was wearing sun glasses - did that not give the judge a clue if he needed both!

I'd love to find the twat of a judge and I bet he drives at 65!

Oh and these guys doing 65 have an appalling attitude to speed - what the ...... - ok maybe the ton in a 60 but 65 - that means that just about every driver ever caught speeding has an appalling attitude to speed.

I ride on those roads all the time. Why are these idiots admitting to exceeding the speed limit? FFS ah well, one less place to ride next summer...

You have got to find somewhere thats not very populated and has quiet rural roads with very light traffic to ride, and that's how Mid Wales used to be. I think that as more tourist's, walkers, mountaineers, cyclists, car enthusiasts, etc etc have gone there, that it is no longer a quiet part of the country, with challenging roads. It's getting harder and harder to find such areas for motorcycling now, but anyone who rides a bike for fun, will always want to find some very twisty technical roads with next to no traffic, so that they can use as much of their bikes performance and handling as the rider can.

It's a shame that during these accidents that the riders in question were travelling a fraction over the speed limit, but the Police know very well that there are a lot of people out there who want to and will go well out of their way to find a quiet NSL road to exceed the speed limit on.

I wonder what would have been said if all three accidents had taken place under the NSL? There are a lot of roads in north Wales that are very technical and twisty, and you could go around a bend at 40mph, and run right off the road and down a sheer drop, or cliff face.

If i ever want to go quick on the road, i think that Travelling to the Scottish highlands is the only place left to have some fun really, on very demanding tricky roads.

This all said, if the Police knew that 100's of bikers all travel up to the remote area's of northern Scotland during the summer, then you could bet your life they would send dozens of traffic units up there, and hide behind rocks and trees like they have been doing in North Wales for the last 5-6 years. This surely is good value Policing? They will make £££'s in speeding fines every weekend then! How crazy is this?

The only people i feel a bit sorry for are the ambulance services, which have to go and scrape up dead bikers off the road, more and more frequently. But while there are people buying big powerful bikes every year there will be people involved in single vehicle fatalities every year, and i don't see any way around this?

You can't sell a superbike to someone and expect them to use more than 60 and 70mph only on track days?

People get stabbed to death every year, and we can still go out and buy knives, so you really should expect bikers to go out and die every year, and not sensationalise it with horror news storys and calls to stop speeding bikers etc.

They were riding to fast for the roads and obviously above their abilities. Why is the general opinion of this forum that motorcyclists can do no wrong and one you get your full licence you are overnight an expert and capable of riding a detuned race machine at well over the speed limits on public roads?
Could this attitude be in anyway connected to the large amount of crash threads on this forum? It is never the riders fault, It is the car owner, the police, road conditions, pedestrians but never inexperienced bikers on unsuitable machinery.

Just look at the stupidity on this forum. The opening page gives us three crash threads, a dead kid and a nob trying to stand a scooter on its back wheel.
Two years ago I had a superbike slide across the road in front of me from the opposite direction on a very wet road nearly taking me down, wanker tried to blame it on fuel spillage but the police could find nothing but rain on the road.
In October this year I was forced into a ditch in Shropshire by a tosser on my side of the road and forced to take evasive action when having just overtaken me a young tosser was forced to brake heavily as he could not make the corner and dropped his bike.

I am not defending some of the things I see in Vintage meets either. Senility is as much as a killer as youthfull inexperiance! I do question that a 18 year old can go on the road on a machine capable of double (+) the speed limit provided they can afford it though. They will of course say they are mature and safe just like the kids around here that ride mini-motos through rush hour traffic or the two clowns on a motorised toy scooter I had to call an ambulace for when their trip to school, two up and standing, was interupted by a bin wagon.

I kind of see your point, but I think purchase cost of the bike, the stepped licence and insurance costs stop young riders getting on anything too silly unless they are super rich (although any bike can kill at the end of the day). The flip side is that DAS can also allow older folk (well 21+) with little prior experience other than training to pass a test to get there hands on all manner of fast tackle. Sometimes i'm not sure if alot of accidents are down to genuine "pushing of the boundries" or just naivity as to how fast say a modern 600 can pile on speed.....all feels very effortless untill you have to get the bugger slowed down and turned from 100+ mph.
