 |
|
I'm having a real issue trying to pull away quickly on the FZR, 2/3k and it pulls away gently and then I can put the power down, if I try to pull off at 4k the bike leaps forward and tries to lift to front in a very unsmooth manner, discuss.
Yes, I noticed the SV thread and remembered I meant to ask someone about this
P.s - I miss being able to hold the revs almost on the limiter and just go! |

it's the same as any other bike - it's all in the clutch. More revs and more slip are required i think. Having said that, i think it'll be best to wait for the opinion of an experienced rider.

1000+cc bikes are able to pull away from tickover if you can get the clutch controll right(and your not a fat bast'd). Practice makes perfect. ____________________ Andy Sez....

Many bikes under 1000cc are also quite able to pull away at around tick over revs, and then smoothly accelerate away quickly. A 1000cc four, certainly has the power to pull very rapidly through the rev range from riding at tickover in 1st gear, and you don't need a quick pullaway to beat other vehicles away from the traffic lights, or to quickly get up to the speed limit etc.
But if your racing another big bike, or trying for a fast 1/4mile time, then you need to do a harder launch, which gets much more tricky. Most 1000cc sportsbikes, will lift the front just from too much throttle being applied to soon, and the front will be hard to keep down just accelerating through 1st and 2nd gear whatever you do.
One point to bear in mind is that Yamaha EXUP's and most big IL4 Yamaha's in general, don't take too much clutch abuse to burn the plates out, so unless you need to do ballistic starts all the time, or are drag racing, then it's best to pull away more slowly most of the time. |

Ah the good old days.
Easy meanderings through the hills of outer Taunton on the varadero.
That was a 125 and if I was feeling particularly lazy that would pull away at tickover (which at the time was about 1200rpm) guess it's a feature of twins?
Cant wait to get back on the road
Oh, and sorry for the zero advice and 100% reminiscence!
